In an attempt to get out of the house, not just for the kids, but also for ourselves, a lazy Sunday afternoon at the beach turned out to be the "hottest" day of the year so far.  Summer in the UAE means humidity one can chew through, sun burning on your skin, leaving a tan line just from walking from the car to the front door and make-up literally melting off your face.

Getting out of the house is like doing laundry - even when you don't feel like it, it's just something you have to do even if the temperature isn't playing along, or else, we would have to sit indoors during most of the summer, evenings included.  Children get bored and grown-ups get irritated and grumpy, as you can imagine.

Usually, the temperature that is shown inside the car is way out.  I make a point of checking it out of curiosity, but today the "AccuWeather" app on my phone and the car's display figures matched perfectly.  Even after driving about 10 kilometers to the beach, it just stayed the same and usually the temperature drops a little after 15:00 in the afternoon, but not today.  I took this photo in the car:

This is still only the beginning and soon it will become much worse.  We also know that the sea water can get warm, but that usually happens at the end of July.  It's like taking a bath, in the ocean!

Luckily, we have lots of shade and grass at our public beach.  Many people prefer the private beach at the hotel, which costs about an arm and a leg, but we have never seen the need to pay so much money it we can go to the public beach for free. There is a play area for the children, barbeque stands, grass and lots and lots of shade.

 

Except for the wind and humidity which gave me a new hairstyle, it wasn't that bad.  The kids enjoyed building sandcastles and splashing around, and me and @ghostgtr relaxed in the private shaded area, watching them, while sweating like pigs.

After a nice bath, new hair and air conditioning to die for, here I am, enjoying my recipe from one of my previous posts, and this time, I can prove it with a picture!
