#Steemit101 : What's a Minnow, Dolphin, Whale, etc in terms of the numbers anyways? Resources for Steemit Noobs.
How do we know if we're a Minnow, Dolphin, Orca or a Whale? Here's the breakdown, charts + info / resources that helps the newer user here.
I am not a fan of "Class Distinction" in life, but the terms are used so much here, you need to understand them.
Your "status" is DIRECTLY related to how many VESTS you have:
Plankton = up to 1 MVESTS aka Newbie/User on the charts below
Minnow = >1 to 10 MVESTS aka SuperUser " " "
Dolphin = >10 to 100 MVESTS aka Hero " " "
Orca = >100 to 1,000 MVESTS aka SuperHero " "
Whale = >1,000 MVESTS aka Legend " "
The easiest way to remember this might be to think of MVests (million-vests) as Steem Power - they are directly correlated if you look at the 2 sets of numbers. Further, at the end of this post, I dug up a post from a year ago, just after launch from founder @ned on it also.
You can check your Vests on Steemd.com, just type Steemd.com/@YourUserName & the Vests will show up on the page there for you, currently sitting on the top-right of the page (April 2017, unless they change the layout)
At TOW this, to help you out so you know what you are looking at there - my Vests are at 23.23 Million, and I have 11,177.290 Steem Power. (April 3, 2017)
Vests are something like a STEEM Power Satoshi unit, of sorts, if you know a bit about Crypto and the decimal places.
For example, this link will take you to mine to have a look, if you like. Then just delete my name off the end of the url and type in yours --- make sure you leave the "@" symbol in there.

Further to sort of back this up, but just different "names" used instead of water/fishy based ones (LOL) -- you can see LIVE updated info on this, daily active users/accounts and the Steemit breakdown of

VESTS WILL BE HEREBY REFERRED TO AS STEEM POWER (SP) and moving from Steem to Steem Power will be referred to as “powering up”; moving from Steem Power to Steem referred to as “powering down.” For example, one can power down their Steem over a period of two years, (( NOTE/EDIT-- this period is now 13 weeks as of platform changes late 2016 -- Barry )) yet one can power up their Steem instantly. Powering up your Steem has several benefits, including automatic and recurring Steem rewards. Additionally, Steem Power gives you voting power, which allows you to earn by casting votes on Steem, and because of this, Steem Power gives you the ability to earn more Steem Power and Steem Dollars. Excellent post dear friend @barrydutton very good information, thank you very much
Hey man, all the best Jose.
Be well mi amigo.
I am curious to know how many of each class there are on Steemit.
How can a handful of whales upvote all the newbies, minnows (and dolphins) here? The influx of new users is a game changer.
For exactly how many months should minnows post before they see rewards?
Excellent post. Highly informative. Thank you!
Appreciate my recording voice if not difficult and I'll follow you! Thank you
Followed you.
I think I lost something in translation there but Thanks for commenting today!
I am 90% to dolphin power now!
Nice. WTG man.
Keep up the good work Jacob.
Thank you for sharing! A link to your post was included in the Steem.center wiki page about Steemian. Thanks and good luck again!
Resteemed this post. Btw this post was super helpful for a noob like me. Thank you very much. XD
I am glad it helped!
Nice post. This can be very confusing for new steemians.
I would edit the power down period reference to 13 weeks. I know you're quoting @neds post but it's a bit out of date.
I edited it --- I hated to touch anything @ned did ---- so made it inline and very clear for people and that the edit was mine.
I was trying to decide how best to handle that and confuse less people. Thanks for the input.
It's awesome to keep our minnow friends in the loop of what these target milestones are! :)
The last few weeks, I have gotten back to doing these posts and in a pile of comments, same -- always remembering new people need help, like I was helped and they come every day.
I needed to grow as a person and a blogging person for a few months I think and it was time to return to my activism for the new/regular people LOL
I got so much help from people like you along the way, @sykochica, @ibringawareness, and I will always remember fondly the night I finally asked @timcliff how to
Furthermore, I was honestly very excited for you new home news and decided about a week ago, on something special for you, when you move and no, I shall not be weakened by your witty charms to reveal it early.
NOPE!
Thanks for the explanation, cheers!
Okay, this was actually news to me! I assumed that you needed 10,000sp to be considered a dolphin...and actually I'm still classified a minnow here: http://steemwhales.com/?p=6&s=reputation&hl=dreemit
But I have 20M Vests. Are you certain about the 10vests thing? I probably still won't consider myself a proper baby dolphin until I hit that 10,000sp, which if not for the hardfork I most likely would have hit days ago :( Ah well, soon enough!
