Keeping my word to continue to share / re-share Steemit 101 type things because I had help when I was new, and we have new users daily who are lost like we were when we were new!
Hoping my regular Steemit 101 / Crypto 101 type posts continue to help all the new people coming daily.
It may not help YOU if you have been here weeks or months, but I always remember some people have been here hours, or days, and they need the resources like we did, when we were new.
Everyone will be new at some point, we should help one another how we can. That is what community is about.
Some sites that were always up, have gone down - some for good I think.... some for days or hours.... then some new ones have popped up also, we will cover them one by one.

I am not a fan of "Class Distinction" as I have written in my posts...... and in real life.
However, the terms are used so much here, you need to understand them.
Your "status" is DIRECTLY related to how many VESTS you have:
Plankton = up to 1 MVESTS aka Newbie/User on the charts below
Minnow = >1 to 10 MVESTS aka SuperUser " " "
Dolphin = >10 to 100 MVESTS aka Hero " " "
Orca = >100 to 1,000 MVESTS aka SuperHero " "
Whale = >1,000 MVESTS aka Legend " "
In the last 12 mths, I have written a couple times on this in my various Steemit 101 Series' to share with new people - and you can see the initial graphic right there from my own page shows / reflects this since I am approaching 5000 followers now.
Also I am a numbers guy so seeing the %'age move as my personal stats changed, means something also.
This resource / site is still down (SteemD.com) unfortunately -- but you can still see and learn from the teaching resource and the rest of the post to learn. I know the day I was able to see these things, it helped me a lot.

Steem Power = Vests.
Easiest way to honestly remember / equate some of this.
The easiest way to remember this might be to think of MVests (million-vests) as Steem Power - they are directly correlated if you look at the 2 sets of numbers.
-- Further, at the end of this post, I dug up a post from over a year ago, just after launch from founder @ned on it also.
Things here have changed a LOT since the original founders' posts and whitepapers, so be advised! I do address some of that here for you.

Here's what the general main page looks like, lots of info on this page for the platform/blockchain:

You can check your Vests and a couple basic metrics for your account on Steemd.com, just type Steemd.com/@YourUserName & the Vests will show up on the page there for you, currently sitting on the top-right of the page ( layout recently changed / features added but that is still in the same spot)
In the top left, they added/changed a few things months ago in that regard which is good. Here's my page today for example so you can see what info will be on your page:

Many other related / similar things can be found by using https://steemdb.com/ to check your stats, (many of them) and the basics of the platform stats too - figured since SteemD.com is usually down now, with certain parts not running, you should know about this too.

At TOW this, to help you out so you know what you are looking at there - my Vests are at 50.8 Million, (MVests) and I have 24,696 Steem Power as of today, Oct. 24th, 2017.
( Aug. 7th, 2017 -- was my 1-year Birthday / Anniversay on Steemit )
Here is my big 1-year Steemiversary Post I did for that day. You can see lots of my stats and progression there and it is funny too, as well as reflectful of my time here the first year:
Nearly every one of my many posts the first 8 mths here were 100% Steem Powered and invested right back into the platform.
The last few months I have liquidated half my post rewards (the liquid portion) and cashed that out -- I needed some money to invest strategically into some things and it has really paid off.
That's the only reason I do not have about ~ 50,000 SP now - in case you are looking at numbers, or wondering some things or timelines.
Another way to say things is I joined here on August 7th, 2016 and it took me til April 3rd 2017 (8 mths + 4 days) to hit 11, 177 SP.
And a total of 14 mths, 21 days to hit 25,000 SP -- since the last few mths as I said, I have been cashing out half my post rewards to use for other things.
And things have really changed here a few times, in the last 12 months believe me.
In April, about 6 mths ago.... related to this, I wrote on the topic also to help people. My numbers then:

Vests are something like a STEEM Power Satoshi unit, of sorts, if you know a bit about Crypto and the decimal places.
