What does the trending page say about Steemit --- Is Steemit a niche site about Cryptocurrency and travel?
I have recently been successful with helping some friends get signed up for steemit and continue to try and convince more to try it out. I just wonder if we are sending the right message to new users by showing what kind of content gets the most rewards. Do we want to back ourselves into a corner and become a niche site dedicated to money, cryptocurrency and some travel posts from the same person? Steemit has a wider variety of content not related to cryptocurrency and some great posts from other travelers with great photos and commentary. I think its time to start upvoting more users with artistic talents and help the trending page be more representative of our diverse group of Steemians, old and new.
Do you look for new and original content to upvote or do you limit yourself to the hot and trending tab?
It's early in Steemit's evolution. I think that Steemit will probably diversify over time. Amazon only sold books early on ...
You've got a valid point
Sure, but I think we should all do more to help it evolve faster.
Very interesting thanks for sharing
Glad you like it
You're welcome, thanks for sharing
Of course if a newbie goes to steemit for the first time, they may think it is only about travel and crypto. But then again, most users are here mainly for STEEM and SBD, so the crypto craze can be understood. However, I don't understand why the posts on travel are so popular. I mean sure they are very well written, with high quality pictures and stuff but I still don't get it.
My only concern with focusing on cryptocurrency so much is that we may discourage some new users from signing up.
I usually look for New and original content. As well as Follow those creators
How do your normally find new and original content on Steemit?
I really like the topic of this blog post. It will bring about a good conversation. For myself I vote mostly off of my Feed. I read a lot of not mostly all the articles on my feed. I find new users through the comment section as I really enjoy conversations even if they are not mine(just a nosey dude). Haha... I do check out the Trending page, but more so the Hot page as this pulls up a wider variety of articles in my opinion. I think the reason you see a lot of crypto and money posts because most people are on here to talk about those topics, myself included. Again Great Post👍
Glad you like the post, its nice to get feedback from other people and their take on the platform. I agree, the hot pages tend to be a little more diverse than the trending pages.
I think it will be interesting to see how trending topics migrate and evolve. On Youtube I typically only watch crypto, photography and travel videos for the most part so the trend here on Steemit is right up my alley if and when we get more original content.
On YouTube I don't really focus on the trending tab just because I see it as mainly pop music and celebrity gossip type stuff, of which I could not care less about.
My hope is that whatever happens that the content is original, not just the same videos posted from a YouTube link. We'll see what happens. I am agreement with you on upvoting more diverse topics. Thanks for getting the conversation started!
I agree with you on the original content front, its nice to see some fresh stuff created specifically for the steemit audience. Do not get me wrong, I am a fan of cryptocurrency topics as well but I just do not want steemit to turn into another form of Bitcointalk when it could be so much more.
There are only two categories I check regularly: the new posts of people I follow and the new category of a tag I find interesting. Sometimes I accidently find myself on the trending and/or hot page, but I try to avoid these.
With the amount of people joining lately it can seem like a full time Job.
