I was one of the first on the internet (via Compuserve) and also became a full time affiliate marketer so I totally relate to your observations.
I am also enjoying the "wild west" feeling that Steemit has at the moment and agree that it is only a matter of time before big money comes rolling in. You only have to look at the latest Alexa ranking to see that Steemit is no longer under the radar:
It is an exciting time to be involved and I just hope things don't get overly commercial too soon.

That noise haunts me! I also had a ZX81 and used to record programmes from Tomorrow's World with a cassette deck so I have binary overload!

My first computer was a Timex Sinclair with
Print "Dave" and it did!!!
For x = 1 to 10

Next x and it did!!!
Then I made it scroll continuously moving right and left
I still love Basic programming. Wish it was still available!
Later I got my first "laptop"...
and was in hog heaven! CP/M dBase III Basic woohoo!!!
