Hey Steemers,

I've been reading posts but I never seen someone promoting affiliate products like Amazon products, Digital softwares, etc. Many sites allow us to promote affiliate products but we have limitation like we can add only one link in an article, the products can't be about gambling and pornography, etc.

By writing product or book reviews we can get commission when someone purchases the product via our affiliate link.

I think on Steemit we are not allowed to include affiliate links in our content. Though I am not sure about it.

What's your views on it? Can we promote affiliate products and services?

Personally, I don't see an issue with affiliate marketing. It will inevitably show up here.

If people don't want to see it, it won't get upvotes, and the marketers will have to pay for exposure.

That is my understanding of how the Steemit economy is supposed to work.

Hey @gigafart

I agree, affiliate marketing is part of any online business. People promote their business on social media and other platforms. I don't see Steemit promoting any stuff, if anyone wants to promote their post they have to pay for it.

I have also seen people promoting other programs. Referring other sites, product and services are good for growing community. What do you say?

I have seen plenty of affiliate and referral links. I think the respectable way to go about things is just let people know they are using a referral or affiliate link. But I understand not everyone adheres to this type of thinking.

Hey @cryplectibles

Yeah, I am aware about the rule - we must mention the link is affiliate link and we get commision from it.

Surprisingly I have't seen any affiliate article yet . I have seen people promoting other programs but I think like other sites promoting other programs with our referral link won't be allowed on Steemit.

You can add affiliate links to your posts. However, if some object to it, don't be surprised.

Hey @pairmike

Yeah people can report or object on affiliated content because of any reason. I think if we genuine views about the products they no one should have objection.

One of the reasons i joined Steemit was because Im not being bombarded with advertisements. Reddit and youtube are just terrible places now.
If I see affiliate links I assume the post is biased and I will exit the page.

Yeah, I agree. Steemit is not bombarding us with banner ads but I always wonder how they are earning then?

We have different tap to see promoted posts and that's what makes it less annoying. I think there are ads which are really beneficial for us for example promo ads where we can save money by applying coupon.

They don't, that's why they are doomed to fail on very long term. It's kind of a ponzi scheme where new investors pay out the old one's. User reward are financed by printing more steemit. It's not better than what central banks are doing.

I don't see a problem with affiliate marketing!

just make sure to stop by http://www.cannabistown.ca/myfreekushbag?referrer=stonedfood !

Yeah, but promoting it to not interested people can be annoying.

This is actually the issue that's playing in my mind now. My two cents is that, affiliate links should be allowed on here. Now if they interfere such a practice within the platform, where is the freedom of opinion goes?

Promoting a product I think is none of their business. Let the reader decide based on the merit of how they were presented by the author.

Flagging someone just because of referral links and/or you don't like his argument is very childish and unacceptable. That is even much worse than Facebook community standards.

That little flag thing is a very dangerous tool for censorship suppressing freedom of speech. Its function should be closely regulated not by humans but by artificial intelligence.

I think tastefully done, affiliate links should be allowed. If someone doesn't want to read a post because they see an affiliate link, then that is their choice. And I wouldn't discount something just because there is an affiliate link attached.

For example, I have a post that I have just written that I plan to post on Steemit. It is two pages in Word. There is one affiliate link in the entire post, and I made sure that I noted that it was an affiliate link but that the reader can go to their local bookstore if they prefer.

I think most people are ok with affiliate links if they know ahead of time it is an affiliate link. I'm always amused by those people who feel the need to say, "I don't make any money on this recommendation," or "This isn't an affiliate link!" I'm mostly happy to support my friends who are affiliates of something they believe in, as long as they're not trying to ram it down my throat. Why would I want to give someone else the business when I can give it to a friend?

Anyway, that's just me and my thoughts on links here in Steemit.
