Similarities between Fishing and the Steemit social media [Steemit Game Development Proposal]

in #steemit8 years ago

To go fishing, you need some amount of time, and water, of course.
So let's see the similarities in an ordered list:

  • you need time to do it (makes no sense to go fishing for 5 minutes a day)
  • there is a luck factor, depending on what kind of fish comes
  • there's also an ability factor (preparing the right bait and equipment)
  • it may be very important the choice of the right moment (you risk to find no fishes around or only tiny minnows)
  • once the fish bites, you have to be clever to catch it, or you risk to lose it
  • there are many small fishes and few big ones
  • the small ones are easier to catch, but have low value
  • the big ones are difficult to catch and less frequent, but they have high value
  • your bait and equipment must be appropriate for the specific kind of fish you wish to catch
  • everything happens in a few hours or in a whole day
  • the more you get experienced the better results you get (when you're lucky)
  • fishermen sometimes collaborate while other times compete each other
  • you need patience (busy people don't go fishing, just buy the fish at the market)
  • most of the time you're waiting, hoping that something happens soon
  • action happens suddenly and in an unpredictable moment
  • you need to find your right spot for fishing (niche), and change it depending on various conditions

Is it a post against Steemit?

Of course it isn't. I am just making a funny comparison and if someone gets offended, there's nothing I can do.
In fact, there are also difference between Steemit and fishing.
Let me put them in another ordered list:

  • also an illetterate may be able to fish without any problem
  • to Steem you need some linguistic / writing skills
  • a successful Steemer may not necessarily be able to fish, because it requires some manual, technic ability
  • to fish you need to be outside and near water, to Steem you don't
  • you can Steem with a smart phone, but you can't fish with it
  • it's impossible to Steem with a fishing rod
  • at the end of the day, you can measure easily your success looking at the bucket with the fishes you caught

To all the brave Developers out there

I think it would be great to develop an app similar to the one created by @mynameisbrian Steemit pond, but based on fishing.

Would be great to have the option to visualize, in real time, one or more Steemers as fishermen sitting on a pond and catching upvotes as different size fishes.

I'm a developer, but I don't know how much would take me to do it by myself, so if someone want to help, I would also pay SBD to have the script with the option to customize it with different graphics and sounds.

Great story. It's funny I have a very similar story sitting in my drafts file for week but I think yours says it much better. #steemitrocks

Oh thank you so much,
it's not a really original idea, we already had minnows and dolphins and whales :)

And thank you for sharing, I would like to read your story when you post it, if you will.

A little advice: don't keep drafts, post when the inspiration arrives!
