When Nintendo developed and released the Game Boy in 1989, it probably never thought about how popular it would become all over the world, and the 8-bit handheld game console reached all parts of the world turning it into what we know today as the 2nd best-selling handheld console of all time and together with the game of Tetris there was no border rival for the device

That is why when the Russian Aleksandr A. Serebrov had a very long trip and a very small weight limit, he decided to kill some time with the game and console, so the russian cosmonaut Serebrov blasted off on the Soyuz TM-17 for a trip to the Mir in an orbit between 300 and 400 kilometers from the earth's surface in 1993 and took what would also become the first console and the first video game to go to space, the handheld and cartridge spent a total of 196 days on the space station what it supposed to orbit about 3000 times around the Earth.

Aleksandr A. Serebrov spent some of his really few free time in the station playing with his Game Boy after all it was a space station, later his re-entry he donated the Game Boy for auction for Bonhams along with an autographed note being sold by US$ 1,220 as the NINTENDO GAME BOY FLOWN IN SPACE.

Aleksandr A. Serebrov note:

Like all cosmonauts, I love sport. My particular favorites are football and swimming. During flight, in rare minutes of leisure, I enjoyed playing Game Boy."
