What's What! Video Game Facts (25/365)
Venezuela reaching the 5th position among the countries of Latin America that spent the most in video games during 2017.
In 2017 the video game industry has generated multi million number and it was the biggest year for digital games and interactive media ever, it was estimated a revenues of US $105 billion, representing an increase of 12% over the previous year, that was around US $91 billion revenue, according to a study published recently by the consultancy Superdata, at the head of the sector is the segment of mobile video games, with a percentage that reaches US $50.4 billion of revenue.
In the second place of the income ranking we find the payment games for PC and console, with US $26 billion, followed by the free-to-play games for PC with US $19 billion, those amounts are scary, but of course we will undoubtedly see a further increase in the mobile video game market every year, I recently saw a study that said one in three people on the planet something like 2.5 billion play free-to-play mobile games, so do not be embarrassed to play some candy crush, and talking about Candy Crush a day like yesterday April 12, 2012 was released this puzzle video game so happy birthday, back to topic.
Now in Worldwide, the main markets for video games; let's see, China is the world leader with a estimated a revenues of US $27,547 billion, but not so far is the United States with US $25 billion and Japan, generating revenues of US $12,546 billion.
Even though Latin America is a small percentage of the market, It also has some number to take into account, the first place is taken for Mexico with US $1,428 billion, followed by Brazil, which represents revenues for US $1,334 billion and Argentina, which is located in a distant third place with US $423 million, the list is closed by Colombia with figures of US $291 million and Venezuela with US $204 million place the tropical country 5th place.
I'm not surprised that the Latin America market is so low, with around ~4%, the piracy here is huge, both in music, movies, and of course video games, we probably monopolize the market mobile games, particularly the free one, due to costs import of console or a decent computer, the internet infrastructure it does not help either, but Latin market has a huge potential to highest growth.
