Bitfilm of the Day, the First Film Competition on Steemit

in #steemit8 years ago (edited)

Hi Steemians,

we will launch a new film competition called "Bitfilm of the Day" on Steemit next Monday, August the 29th.

Every week day (from Monday to Friday) we will present a film that we like - and of course you may vote for it.  All the Steem Dollars that are collected during that week go into a jackpot. It is the individual vote during the first 24 hours after each film's launch that counts, regardless of the voter's Steem Power.

While a whale's vote means more money for the winner, to become Bitfilm of the Week each vote counts the same. We find that is a fairer way to vote, don't you agree?

At the end of the week, the film with the most votes will get 70% of the Steem Dollars of that week's jackpot. The other 30% of the jackpot will pay the work of the curator who selects the films and presents them on Steemit. After one year, all 52 weekly winners will be shown at the Bitfilm Festival in a real-life place.

We have been organising the Bitfilm Festival since the year 2000, so we do have a certain expertise in curating film programmes and organising film competitions. I will tell you more about the Bitfilm Festival's history in one of my next posts.

Just so much: From 2000 to 2013, we had a focus on digital animations, be it 3D, Flash or Machinima made in computer games. Here is a short documentary about our 2006 edition:

In 2014 we reinvented the festival and only showed films about Bitcoin. We screened full-length documentaries like The Rise and Rise of Bitcoin, The End of Money as We Know it or Life on Bitcoin, as well as many short films. Our festival programme toured the world twice, with events in Berlin, Budapest, Amsterdam, San Francisco, Buenos Aires, Montevideo, Saigon, Bali and other places, most of them decentrally organised by the local Bitcoin communities. That was truly amazing, but we will probably not do it again this year, as there are not that many great new films on Bitcoin every year.

But we are very excited about Steemit and the new possibilites it brings! So we want to try out this new ongoing competition for film makers and hope you like it.

If you are a film maker and you want to submit your own film, or if you know a film that we should present, please use our submission form. There are no restrictions regarding topic, genre or technique. The maximum length is (roughly) 5 minutes. And of course the film needs to be available online.

We are looking forward to watching your film!

I have tried to embed a Vimeo video by this workaround: https://steemit.com/steemit/@ewerx/workaround-for-embedding-vimeo-videos-on-steem
but it did not work. Can someone give me a hint how to solve that?

You need the full HTML-Embedded code for videos, like when you click at "share" and then "Embed". I publisehd an tutorial article in german about it some minutes ago. Should I make a english one too?

Danke, ich spreche deutsch.

Hi Aaron.
Where can I find the film of the day ?

You will find it at the new account @bitfilm, starting at 7pm CET today. We just wrote a short introduction.

I like it, but I've found that going by number of votes is open to exploit since technical users can mine hundreds of different accounts to upvote themselves OR upvote the one they want to win. I've had to take that aspect out of my contest because of that.

Thanks a lot. We will see how the first week goes. If we see these manipulations we will find a way to avoid them.
