Greetings fellow Steemians!

My submission for Steemit Iron Chef 2018 Act 01 Round 02 hosted by @progressivechef.

Sarma is a traditional dish in Bulgaria, Macedonia, Turkey, Romania, Bosnia, Serbia ... Every one has a slightly different recipe. I'll make sarma using an old Serbian traditional recipe. Serbs serve it every day but especially for special occasions like Slava and other holidays. I really like to make it in winter season using sour cabbage because it’s full of vitamins.

INGREDIENTS:
1 head of sour cabbage
500 g of ground beef meat
2 cups of rice
2 red onions
2 white onions
salt, black pepper, bay leaf, red pepper, parsley, marjoram
1 egg
500 ml. water
4 tablespoons of tomato sauce
1-2 spoons of flour
2 garlic cloves
1 tablespoon of oil

Put 1 tablespoon of oil in a pan and heat it up. Add diced onions and cook it on low heat until it turns yellow and cool it down. Mix onions and meat and add 2 cups of rice, salt, pepper and 1 egg.

Peel off the large cabbage leaves from the head of cabbage, keeping only the leaves that are whole/intact and big enough to stuff. Chop up the remaining smaller leaves along with the core of the cabbage and save it for later. Place large leaves on a cutting board and remove the lower hard part of the stem. Put 2 tablespoons of meat mixture in the middle of the cabbage leaf and roll it up.

Place it in a baking try and add 500 ml. water, 4 tablespoons of tomato sauce, 2 chopped garlic cloves, salt, black pepper, fresh parsley and marjoram.

Put it in the oven for 2 hours on 200 °C. Serve it with boiled potatoes.

looks like a hearty dish in the winter cold ...

That's the way - or similar - I know from my childhood! My mom used to make "Kohlrouladen" that way and served it with a light tomato-paprika sauce and steamed potatoes. Memories from long ago ...
