Rewards - add a little trickle down economics

in #steemit-ideas8 years ago (edited)

The discussion about rewards is moving in a better direction now, and it looks like regular users will be getting better reasons to stay and play. Before the decisions are made I wanted to throw an additional suggestion into the mix.

Needs more daily voting. The site would be curated a lot better if users were encourage to vote 10x more. Making each daily vote 2% instead of %5 would increase the curation and promote better content, and allow the tagline:

  • Get paid for your 2%
    or
  • Your 2% could be worth more than 2¢
  1. Trickle down rewards. When a heavily invested user votes it should transfer some of that large voting\reward power to the person they voted for in addition to the reward, and allow the upvoted users opinion on content to carry higher rewards. This could actually have the "trickle down economics" effect we have all been hearing about for years, (but that really doesn't work due to crony capitalism). With the blockchain, it really could trickle down through the upvoted and spread the rewards more evenly across the board. Bots would have a harder time tracking this as well.

  2. Separate post\reply voting rewards. This would double the daily votes again, and encourage more voting on good comments.

  3. End of day Recalculation. At the end of the day if the user did not use all 100 of their votes, recalculate their worth. That way it does not matter if you use them all or save them for the popularity contest, all your power would still get used. This would more randomly distribute trickle down rewards through the users upvoted by big investors, without an easy way to track it.

If this were applied daily there would be 10 times more voting, and it would be harder for bots to game the system.

That's my 2%. Good luck with the math part :)

Edit: Good news! It looks like dantheman will make a change that encourages 10x more voting.

Now if there were only some daily Trickle Down voting power for the people who post upvote worthy content...

I like this, especially number 2, at the moment its too weighted towards article votes.

As someone with 211 comments and only 17 articles I couldn't agree more.

User support for example just isn't rewarded at all. I'm lucky when the guy who asked the question votes it up - yay, a fraction of a cent for me!

//edit: I nearly forgot my greatest follower, @hcf27! Thank you for upvoting everything I write, twice. And two more times for every edit. < 3 u too, whoever you are!

Comments are where its at, they are so much more valuable than votes, have you read my little article A Solution To Curator Awards? I have ranked levels of contribution and voting is right at the bottom.

Dan said that they are working towards a lot of what I proposed so hopefully we will see changes soon. Personally I want someone incentivised to share my content to their FB and Twitter friends as this spreads the message far and wide and grows the system.

Making each daily vote 2% instead of %5 would increase the curation and promote better content, and allow the tagline:

There should really be an advanced setting for this, but you may be right that 2% is a better default. I don't know.

When a heavily invested user votes it should transfer some of that large voting\reward power to the person they voted for in addition to the reward

This is the case! Half the rewards are paid in Steem Power which means the person receiving the votes gets more influence.

Half the rewards are paid in Steem Power which means the person receiving the votes gets more influence.

I mean the same day\voting period, not whenever the post activity dies down and a payout happens. (this was the last way I heard it worked)
This would allow a more random daily trickle down of voting power, that is based on posting something cool every day and then voting.

Ah, good idea. So, temporary voting power, meaning by getting a lot of votes you are appointed a power curator for the day or such. It can be hard to design these things in a manner that isn't exploitable (for example bots voting for each other in order to boost their voting power). Still it has potential I think.

I'm upvoting the effort you put into the post, not necessarily the ideas you've proposed. Or am I? =b

either way works for me!
