Mindfullness does work. It interrupts unconscious habits and makes you aware of the small unconscious things you are doing that harm you - such as stress eating and drinking.
Eating junks make people to unnecessarily gain weight. It's dangerous. Having app like to stop eating indiscriminately will do to monitor weight gain.
When you really become mindful of your own body and its phsiological processes, you won't need an app to tell you what and when to eat. But this may be a helpful intermediary tool towards transition to that level.
