Wind is one of the sources of producing electricity. We use wind turbines to generate energy. It converts the kinetic energy into the electric energy. The traditional way is to install the wind towers.
Makani is designed to grab the wind from higher altitudes. Even where the wind towers can't reach. Each kite consists of there parts:
- The Kite
- The Tether
- The Ground Station
The Makani energy kite is an aerodynamic wing tethered to a ground station. As the kite flies in loops, rotors on the wing spin as the wind moves through them. Our latest prototype transfers up to 600 kilowatts of electrical power generated onboard down the tether to the grid.

The kite is controlled through the flight controller software. It takes note of its path and gets the data through GPS and other sensors.
