#STEEMGIGS: (rare intel) — Commendable medical innovations from Africa as of now - 01
No one else will sing the song of your Nation like you but you. No one else will sound the trumpet of your Nation like you but you. A whole lot of new innovations are springing forth from Africa as of recent. Many a times, these innovations are not getting the media attention and accolades which they deserve. It is up to us Africans to spread these news with every opportunity and means available to us. Thanks to @steemit thanks to @steemgigs for these media platform for expression.
For a start, I’ll like to list out a couple of these epochal innovations popping out of the continent:
Jamii
Jamii is a mobile micro-health insurance start up situated in Lilian Makoi, Tanzania. Jamii is committed to delivering health care solutions through digitized means. Jamii provides services targeted at low-income earners, making it easier for them to access healthcare. Jamii boasts of coverage, reach, and projects in over five countries in Africa with over a hundred hospitals that accepts their services. Cities such as Mbeya, Mwanza, Kigoma, Kilimajaro, Songea, and Lingi to meantion a few have a couple of hospitals that accepts Jamii’s healthcare. Thumbs up Jamii! Keep up the good work!!
Cardiopad
Cardiopad is a touch screen medical tablet computer/tablet that takes a reading and sends it to a heart specialist. Medical heart examinations such as the electrocardiogram (ECG) are being performed with it at remote, rural locations and the results of the tests are transferred wirelessly to specialists for interpretation. This innovation spares people in remote areas the stress of journeying from rural areas to urban centers for medical attention. The Cardiopad was invented by a 24 year old Cameroonian Chemical Engineer Arthur Zang. Arthur Zang's invention was awarded the Africa Prize for Engineering Innovation by the UK's Royal Academy of Engineering in Dar es Salaam Tanzania, the ceremony for the presentation held there.
Arthur Zang said the invention that his uncle died from a stroke after he had already started working on the Cardiopad and this gave him extra motivation to push the project. The Cardiopad is currently being sold and used in Nepal, India, and Gabon.
LifeBank Nigeria
LifeBank is a massive/major breakthrough in healthcare that has come to stay. From my discovery, the solution it presents will last son long and will also be self-sustaining. Lifebank is a Nigerian start-up situated in the heart of Lagos, Nigeria. Lifebank specialises in transportation/delivery of blood to hospitals in Lagos. Lifebank started about two years ago and they’ve delivered over 5,000 imperial pints of blood. Lifebank got the attention of world renowned founder of Facebook Mark Zuckerberg. The beauty about Lifebank is the tech nature/model it presents. As of now, Lifebank has moved 9505 products and served 359 hospitals. Now this is simply amazing! Lifebank is located at 1, Connal Road, Yaba Lagos.
It behooves every African to promote and support these innovations so as to give a positive impression of the continent. Africa has been dubbed “a third world”/developing continent. Over the years, the odds seem to be against the continent, but, in the midst of these, we cannot deny the fact that Africa is fast taking centre stage in technological advancement and innovative creations.
