I know all the clothes end up in the same spot. And whatever is not wearable gets sold in bulk to a textile place for money to help , and I'm not sure how the spread the usable clothes around. Thrift shops, homeless shelters, and churches probably all help too..
Many places have "free stores" nowadays, that makes it very easy to donate in a single location everything except perishable food, and you KNOW the stuff gets to people who at least WANT it (need is a truly subjective value, many times), and you can hope, quite reasonably, that want is not simply whimsical.
