How To Upvote/Reward Old Posts - A Steem Forever Tutorial

Hey Steemians

Let me ask you guys and girls a question. Have you ever come across a post via google or searching through steemit or linked to from another post and It was like a few weeks, months or even a year old and you thought, this is such a good post, I wish I could upvote it?

I know I have, many a time, especially during those early days when finding information on how to use Steemit and its various services was one of my primary motivations when going in search of content on the platform.

The 7 day payout period is a love-hate relationship we all have with steemit but we've sort off well made it work and soldiered on and encourages users to keep creating content.

However, there are some stand our pieces I feel often go unnoticed and do not get the reward they deserve. Well, that may have been a problem, until now. Now we have Steem Forever and we can reward old posts to our heart's content.

Introducing Steem Forever

Steem forever is a fairly new service created by @c-squared @famunger also known as “swisschris” and @knircky, the guys behind @steem-bounty. You can find the introduction post here

Steem Forever that allows you to bypass the 7-day payout limit and upvote posts way after they've had their payout and continue to reward the author, days, weeks, months and even years after the post was originally created.

How does Steem Forever work?

Step 1: Visit Steem Forever - https://steem-bounty.com/services/forever

Step 2: Enter the URL/Link of the old post you would like to upvote and click the green upvote button

In this example, I've used the following link - https://steemit.com/steem-bounty/@chekohler/fantastic-bounties-and-where-to-find-them-a-steem-bounty-tutorial-9b2121a7c253cest

Step 3 Navigate to the Steemit Forever link

Now that the steemit forever link is created, the URL should look something like this - https://steem-bounty.com/services/forever/@chekohler/fantastic-bounties-and-where-to-find-them-a-steem-bounty-tutorial-9b2121a7c253cest

It will now be hosted on the STEEM bounty website, so don't freak out, its all part of the plan.

Step 4 Now once you have your new steem forever link all you will have to do is log in to STEEM bounty website via steem connect.

Step 5 Once you're logged in navigate to the upvote button and upvote the post with your desired level of voting power

It's as simple as that, now you've officially upvoted a post older than 7 days. Pretty neat, don't you think?

How does the Steem Forever payment work?

Steem-forever firstly checks whether the post has been paid out or not. If it has past its 7 day payout then the Steem-forever will drop a comment in the post.

Users can either vote on the comment or on your post via your Steem Forever link.

Once the comment payout date is reached the payout will be sent to the author with a commision given to steem forever for their service.

Combining Steem Forever with curation initiatives.

Curation communities and trails are really helpful in spreading awareness of smaller authors, helping them get recognition and rewards. It really is a vital part of the Steemit ecosystem. However, these initiatives are really limited by the 7-day payout process.

Which is why I think the STEEM Forever tool could add an entirely new dynamic to curation and allow smaller authors who we have missed out in the past to receive rewards for their hard work and add an entirely new level to the curation process.
