What do you know about json limits to profile? I was trying to find info on that and was hitting a dead end.

The only limit I know of is the 65kb block size. I also made a max size post by putting all the information inside the JSON meta data... which worked fine. You can embed quite a bit of code in a single operation.

Would love to have your view on the limits here @bobinson - is there a way (bug?) to circumvent this and store any amount of data beyond the 65kb size?

Traveling with limited access. 1. The post object’s data type has to be cheked 2. API may have limits placed especially when the right encoding is used.

Until 19.x versions it was possible to store large amounts of data into posts. There is even a sample code in GitHub for the same. If I remember correctly this is changed/fixed in hf20

Yeah, just store it all in a linked list structure. When you run out of room point to the next node. It wouldn't be that hard to post pictures, voice, or even video using this technique. I think the real question is why we would do this. It's going to be a vast waste of resources to put stuff like this directly on the blockchain for all time.

I have a lot of ideas and random stuff I've been working on a tiny bit. Mostly it's just about learning JavaScript because I'm a total noob in that department.

One of my simpler ideas is to create a Cards Against Humanity Clone where players create their own decks and get tipped for thinking of good cards. So far, blogging/vlogging is the only Proof-of-brain activity on this blockchain and that's something that needs to change so people stop thinking that Steem == Steemit.

and RC cost... and speculation about how much bandwidth the witnesses can actually process. I think they would be totally fucked if we started using all our RCs.

In fact... according to this math if everyone was using all their RCs at these costs that would be 10 GB per week... and last I heard our entire blockchain was 1.5 gigs.

Yep, the RC numbers don't really make sense to me.
I am hoping that they sorta a floating percentage of available resources divided by user MVs.

But, my hopes are often dashed by reality. As was seen in the last hard fork that brought us this mess.

no, it certainly doesn't. I did do this math wrong but it's still not believable. I used 300,000,000 Steem instead of 200,000,000, which is the true powered up amount.

so if you assume I can post 65KB 200 times that's 12.7MB per 5 days.

if you assume that everyone else gets the same RC ratio as I do that's
205,241,811 / 3501 ~ 58624 accounts with my level of SP

58624 * 12.7MB ~ 744522MB = 727GB per 5 days. hmmmm

yeah math is hard.

The max block size is 65KB. That's 65 x 1024 = 66560 characters. I had to shave this down to 64728 to make enough room for the title and the JSON meta data containing the tags and such.

Now I'm wondering if I was also making room for everyone else posting on that block. If a lot of people try to post on the same block is there a bandwidth error? Probably.

The cost of this post was around 19 million resource credits. That's like 20 times higher than usual. Still, with 3500 SP I could do this 200 more times for a total of 12.3 Megabytes stored to the blockchain... forever... with every node forced to save that information till the end of time.

I could do that every 5 days... so I think we have to assume that the amount of RCs we get every week will not be sustainable when the blockchain has mainstream adoption.

We have to assume we're operating on a fractional reserve where STINC and the witnesses assume that only a small portion of the RCs granted will actually be used. When more RCs get used we'll have to increase the cost of posting or develop scaling solutions.

Isn't those RC's supposed to scale with the usage of the network? Wasn't the problem at the launch of RC system that the price was set too high, and they fixed it later by just giving some rc's to people, because it would have taken too long from that algorithm to bring down the prices?

I'm not exactly sure how it went down. It seems like witnesses should have more direct control over how much RCs are given out. I'm sure prices will go up if we face scaling issues.

steemdb.com has live stats of the blocks with amount of posts, votes, comments, etc.

I tried to post this like 25 times. Each time I deleted a hundred characters or so. I think it's pretty telling that I had to shave off a couple thousand characters. I think I'll just go ahead and assume that max_block_size actually means max block size instead of max operation size.
