Acts 6:2-3

Then the twelve summoned the congregation of the disciples, and said: It is not fitting that we neglect the word of God to serve tables. Therefore, brothers, choose from among you seven men of good reputation, full of the Holy Spirit and of wisdom, to whom we can entrust this task.

What is the key to a Christian leader being successful?

Believe it or not, leadership is based on character, not personality types. Even an introverted person can become a good leader, where other people apparently more prepared or with more charisma fail. Above all, the important thing is humility and the decision to follow in Jesus' footsteps.

If God is calling you to be a leader in your congregation, pay attention to the following points about good Christian leadership.

Habits of a good Christian leader

I. Leaders are people of trust

Leaders do not base their leadership effectiveness on carrying out the best market competition practices, or on making the best processes, or on making a lot of phone calls.

People are going to follow the people they like and like them. They like people they can trust, and they trust people who show concern and competence. People will work better if they feel heard, if it is clearly known what is expected of them and if they feel that we understand that they are also people, and make decisions every day outside of work that affect them and their families.

II. Leaders listen

Listening skills are not hereditary, they are acquired, and many leadership styles are based on this. Most skills are acquired in childhood, and if children do not feel that adults are listening to them, it is very likely that they will not listen to adults.

Most people (75% according to some studies) do not listen well. People are motivated by leaders to listen to them. People are more likely to follow an example than an order; that's why to create better listeners you have to become a good listener. Everyone knows something that you do not, and if you listen, you will find ideas that people have to improve the organization.

III. Leaders do not judge

If you criticize someone's ideas, surely that person will never use yours because you are attentive to their self-integrity. Two heads think better than one and effective teamwork should always be considered as an option. This does not only mean teaching others to work together and using the ideas of others, but it can be useful for you to become part of the process by applying your honesty.

IV. The leaders delegate

The potential of people is sometimes wasted not being able to adequately manage time at work. A good leader can not handle every detail. A good leader recognizes that everyone has skills outside the immediate environment, and trusts other people to use these skills in a prudent manner.

V. Leaders motivate

People tend to stagnate when motivation and leadership decrease. Motivation and creativity is not the old saying "I say something or something bad is going to happen", this is simply being guided by fear. This may have short-term results, but it is not effective in the long term.

Instead, challenge people as this generates enthusiasm and creativity. Set goals that may be slightly out of your progress zone, and see the results. Then, guide them to the solution, but do not give them. Teach them to discover themselves and their self-esteem will rise, along with better results for you.

VI. leaders cater to people

People in general do not change much. See how the people who follow you are now. Manage your current capabilities, and not the capabilities of an outstanding person by valuing them as human beings. This person will find his own way.

Thanks to constant observation in what is required to do the job and become an expert in interviews and contracts.

VII. Leaders learn

The leaders, being ethical and moral people, look at themselves and their actions to see if they could have done better, and remember to do better next time. Leaders educate themselves by seeking information, reading about leadership, talking with other leaders, exchanging ideas and experiences and remembering that change is constant.

They maintain all trends in management, technique, industry and the needs of people. When he has grown to employ 5-15 people, they will have to change from managing things to managing people, and from an expert technician to a strategic thinker.

VIII. Leaders plan in advance

It is not enough to come to work just to do your job, and leave at the end of the day and move on. This is what the employees do, this is their contract. The leaders think about "what will happen next", "what would happen if ..." and have the answers and a plan of action prepared. They are constantly thinking about the future, writing down ideas for improvement, and determining ways in which The day-to-day process works without problems to give them more time.

IX. Leaders set goals for themselves

Leaders invest time and money in case it is necessary for personal development. Think about where you or your organization would like to be in 3 or 5 years. Write down these objectives, and write what needs to be done to achieve each of them.

The objectives can be financial, personal or related to hobbies. Draw a plan for your life and, if possible, set deadlines for each goal. Review the plan from time to time to evaluate the results, and modify it as necessary if the circumstances change. Seek the support of those who are close to you who are affected, to win your purchase, and keep them informed of how you are going with your goals.
