ARE YOU REALLY A MEMBER OF JESUS'S FAMILY OR A JUST A CUSTOMER?

But He answered and said to the one who told Him, Who is My mother and who are my brothers? (V.48)

• God's unfeigned Word brings crowd of people among whom are potential disciples. The crowd had gathered to listen to Jesus, when suddenly, His mother and brothers appeared. Thou , He acknowledged their presence, He needed to attend to issue on the spur of the moment - rightly dividing the Word of salvation, which though, a matter of choice, is for everyone, Jesus'biological family members inclusive.

*He wasn't being rude, but He never allowed any distraction , while doing God's business. How about ministers of God who receive phone calls during Church service even on the pulpit?

Human blood relationship does not count, when it comes to becoming a member of Christ's family,the Church. You can neither inherit being born again nor be born again by proxy. Biological, communal or political affinity aside. are you a member of Jesus's family

And He stretched out His hands toward His disciples and said, " Here aremy mother and my brothers.(V.49)

• By then, the parents would have understood him. This was not the first time that Jesus would be found in the midst of people, talking to them (Lk2:46-48) . Perhaps, they had come to be fed with the Bread of Life. For Jesus, it was never a time to attend to domestic issue. He controls the time(Ecl. 3;1ff) and never allows frivolities.

• V 49. There was more to the crowd than ordinary people. They were potential saints and members of the royal priesthood - a joint heir of the kingdom of heaven. The crowd represented a larger family (spirtual) than the biological (physical /earthly) family.

• so , Jesus spoke to disabuse the mind of the crowd, stressing his priority - declaration of the gospel. The statement here is symbolic of what Christians are to expect in the race - seperation from family members(Lk 14:25ff).

• He gave the comfort and hope to the potential disciples that they are dearer to Him than earthly attachments, stressing that, doing His father's will , is the only perquisite for acceptance and adoption to His everlasting family. Are you really a member or a customer?.

The welfare of our spiritual family members (the Church) should be paramount in our minds than any other affiliations.

Jesus never got distracted from His vision and mission. He stood against all odds and distractions to declare it. Doing the will of His father is the only fulcrum that qualifies one for son-ship into God's family
