Gen 3:8 And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden. Gen 3:9 And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?

This is an occurrence early in the Bible where God spoke to Adam and Eve. The verse gives the notion that God was in the habit of walking in the garden, “In the cool of the day”. They recognized God's voice and hid themselves on this occasion. Also implied that this is the first time they hid themselves as sin entered into the world.

Christophany is an appearance of God The Son (Jesus) throughout the Bible other than the time of His Birth to His ascension.

Theophany includes the above occurrences but also include manifestations of God throughout the Bible.

Assumptions

THE BIBLE TELLS JS THAT GOD IS A SPIRIT
Joh 4:24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

NO MAN CAN LOOK AT GOD AND LIVE
Exo 33:20 And he said, Thou canst not see my face: for there shall no man see me, and live.

THE APOSTLES JOHN SAID THE ONLY PERSON EVER TO HAVE SEEN THE FATHER WAS THE SON
Joh 1:18 No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.

But throughout the Bible there are those who claim to have seen God. This seemingly contradictory idea is by God revealing Himself to man cloaked in a body. As Jesus walked this earth. Emmanuel “God with us”. He said I’d we have seen Him we have seen the Father. When God revealed Himself to mankind He did it in a way that veiled His Glory from the onlooker.

Now our text verse shows God meeting with Adam and Eve in the Garden. This is after they had sinned. I suppose before sin entered into the world, it would be possible for Adam to see God in His entirety. But here in our text, man has already fallen and the glory that covered their nakedness had already been moved.

Is this a Theophany or a Christophany? For me it is the latter! God came and chatted with Adam and Eve after the fall. God also killed some animals to make a suitable covering for the first couple. We know from the Bible that Jesus was the Creator of all things (Col 1:16).

From my perspective this is a Christophany where God the Son walked and talked with sinful man.
