The Best Thing

Many are happy to be God’s People because of forgiveness of sins, and His provisions and help while we are on this earth, plus the hope of eternity with Him after we die. A place with every tear wiped away and a mansion prepared for God’s Faithful. In other words Heaven.

But I submit that these are great, but not the best or even close to the best part of being God’s people.

The Best is God Himself

THE BEST IS NOT THE THE THINGS HE GIVES OR PROVIDES FOR US, BUT THE BEST IS GOD HIMSELF OUR INHERITANCE

Context

If we look at the context of this text verse, we can see that God, through the prophet Ezekiel is speaking of the Priesthood. The Levitical priest were not given land or an earthly inheritance, but God was to be their portion or Inheritance. As I have been saying throughout this study, the Old Testament is only properly understood through the New Testament and not are only truly understood through Jesus Christ.

We can see through the Bible that God has always wanted a personal relationship with His people. Israel rejected this and asked to have a King like other nations. God gave them Saul, who not a great leader, then He gave them, out of His mercies King David. This does not negate the fact or truth that God desires a personal relationship without the need of a “Middleman”.

Priests

Lets look at a few more verses and see who are the priests

Exo 19:5 Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine:
Exo 19:6 And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.

Deu 18:1 The priests the Levites, and all the tribe of Levi, shall have no part nor inheritance with Israel: they shall eat the offerings of the LORD made by fire, and his inheritance.
Deu 18:2 Therefore shall they have no inheritance among their brethren: the LORD is their inheritance, as he hath said unto them.

Isa 61:6 But ye shall be named the Priests of the LORD: men shall call you the Ministers of our God: ye shall eat the riches of the Gentiles, and in their glory shall ye boast yourselves.

New Testament

1Pe 2:9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:
1Pe 2:10 Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.
1Pe 2:11 Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims,

My thoughts

I make this with the header “My thoughts” so you can read the verses and come to your own conclusion, hopefully lead and taught by the Holy Spirit. But my thoughts are God does not change. His first encounter with man in the Garden was a place where God “Walked in the cool of the day”, with the first man Adam. The verses I quoted earlier show that God separated the Levites and gave them no earthly inheritance but He Himself was their portion or Inheritance. Today by the scriptures God calls every person in Christ ministers and priest. “A Royal Priesthood”.

The Best News is That God Himself is our Portion and Our Inheritance
