The text describes God as the originator of all comfort, but the translation can also be accurately say, “The God of all kinds of comfort”. Meaning comfort of every kind. Comfort spirit, soul and body. Or every kind of comfort you would ever need or want. The notion that He is the originator of all comfort given might bother some people, but this is what the text says.

My paraphrase based on looking closely at the original language

The bible says of God that He lets it rain on the just and the unjust. His provision and His Mercies are available to every person, regardless of their country of birth, ethnic background, religious affiliation. He is close and available to anyone that would call on Him.

Our response to God’s Comfort

Our response to His comfort or responsibility is to comfort others with that same comfort.

It has been my experience that God’s Comfort is always there. I went the first 22 years of my life without acknowledging that this comfort existed, but I can look back and see He was always there. Now I know whenever I need real comfort, I can call out to Him and He is always there, always willing. Sometimes He sends someone to be His representative to bring this comfort. But He is the Originator of Comfort.
