19th in this Series - Jesus in Every Book of the Bible - 1 Chronicles 13th Book

1Ch 11:4 And David and all Israel went to Jerusalem, which is Jebus; where the Jebusites were, the inhabitants of the land.

1Ch 11:5 And the inhabitants of Jebus said to David, Thou shalt not come hither. Nevertheless David took the castle of Zion, which is the city of David.
1Ch 11:6 And David said, Whosoever smiteth the Jebusites first shall be chief and captain. So Joab the son of Zeruiah went first up, and was chief.
1Ch 11:7 And David dwelt in the castle; therefore they called it the city of David.
1Ch 11:8 And he built the city round about, even from Millo round about: and Joab repaired the rest of the city.
1Ch 11:9 So David waxed greater and greater: for the LORD of hosts was with him.

1st Chronicles starts with the lineage of all of the tribes of Israel or descendants of Jacob. Jesus was in the lineage of David, Joseph, Judah. But David is also a type of coming Christ as a ruling king. The Jews expected two Messiahs. One BenDavid and one BenJoseph. The ruling king and suffering servant. Their focus was the ruling king expecting this king to come and free them from the Roman rule and set Israel as a ruling entity in the world.

IN OUR TEXT DAVID TAKES JERUSALEM ALSO CALLED THE CITY OF PEACE OR CITY OF DAVID

David was a mess in many ways. He is also a great example of a person who truly worshipped Yahweh and a man of repentance and a man after God’s Own Heart. He was promised a king to be on the throne forever. This king is the Messiah BenDavid. This King is Jesus Christ.

EVEN THOUGH THE JEWS EXPECTED TWO COMING MESSIAHS, THERE IS ONLY ONE WHO CAME FIRST AS A SUFFERING SERVANT (BENJOSEPH) and will once again return and His feet will stand on the Mount and He will rule as King (BenDavid).

Jesus

Mat 1:1 The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.

Act 13:22 And when he had removed him, he raised up unto them David to be their king; to whom also he gave testimony, and said, I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after mine own heart, which shall fulfil all my will.
Act 13:23 Of this man's seed hath God according to his promise raised unto Israel a Saviour, Jesus:

He will return

Act 1:9 And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.
Act 1:10 And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel;
Act 1:11 Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.
