MARRIAGE: THE BLUEPRINT IS THERE!!
It is no longer news that the marriage institution has witnessed quite a number of perversions: divorce and remarriage, polygamy, bigamy, polyandry and recently, same-sex marriage. However, God, the designer and mastermind of marriage has given us the blueprint of marriage; it is contained in the scriptures.
What is the BLUEPRINT?
B - BONDING TOGETHER
The man and his wife must bond together. Their heart and souls must be knitted together as one; that is, the two of them must have shared feelings, interests and experiences. "Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh." (Genesis 2:24)
L- LEAVING AND CLEAVING
You have to leave your biological parents, relations, friends and everyone you have lived or associated with since you have been born, and be joined to one person - your spouse - for a lifetime. Leaving and cleaving is both physical and emotional. You will not only leave your parents' or guardian's physical home or custody and live elsewhere with your spouse, but also transfer your emotional attachment from them to your new partner. "For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife : and they twain shall be one flesh." (Matthew 19:5)
U - UNEQUAL YOKE PROHIBITED:
"Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? And what communion hath light with darkness?" - (2 corinthians 6:14).
The admonition is pungent and straightforward: as a born-again Christian, do not marry a non-Christian. Do not allow anything or anyone to mislead or misguide you into such unholy relationship. Don't feel that you'll convert him or her after marriage; it won't work.
E - ENDEARING LOVE FOR YOUR SPOUSE:
"Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it" (Ephesians 5:25). You must have unconditional and sacrificial love for your spouse. Love your spouse just as Jesus loves the church. Jesus died for the redemption of the church. That should be the measure of your love for your spouse.
P - PUTTING AWAY FORBIDDEN:
"For the Lord, the God of Israel, saith that he hateth putting away" (Malachi 2:16). God forbids divorce. Try not to bring or cause divorcement to set in.
R - REBIRTH OF BOTH PARTNERS:
The marriage of godly partners or Christians is the ideal marriage, because this is the picture God had in mind when He instituted the sacred union. So you must be born-again and ensure you marry a born-again Christian. That is the foundation of a happy home. But if your spouse is not a Christian, manifest Christ to him or her: "For what knowest thou, O wife, whether thou shalt save thy husband? or how knowest thou, O man, whether thou shall save thy wife?" (1 Corinthians 7:16)
I - INFIDELITY ABHORRED:
Do not defile the bed of marriage. If you do, you will incur the wrath of God. "Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge" (Hebrews 13:4).
N - NEVER TO BE DISSOLVED:
"What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder" (Mark 10:9). Marriage is for a lifetime; it cannot be dissolved by anyone or anything: the couple, their parents, friends, other people or the law court. It can be dissolved only by the death of a partner.
T - THOROUGH CHILD TRAINING:
Children must be brought up in the way of the Lord. "Train up a child in a the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it" (Proverbs 22:6)
The blueprint transcends all generations, peoples, families, customs, cultures, and races, and as you adhere to it, submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of the God ( Ephesians 5:21-22), you will have a blissful and successful marriage.
