THE RESURRECTION : Back to the Old Testament - Part 4

in #steemchurch6 years ago

Peace from our Father by our Lord Jesus Christ and through the Holy Ghost be with you all. It's a great privilege given to me by God to be with you this day to go into the scripture and ask for understanding about His resurrection. We started this series couple of days ago and today, we are continuing from where we ended. If you've not gone through the previous messages, I will entreat you to do so. Links are provided at the end of this post. Let's start by reading the verse we are considering today.

![image]() >Then he said to them, "These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, that everything written about me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled." (Luke 24:44, ESV)

This verse tells us the very words Jesus spoke to His disciples after He had bid them peace in their troubled soul and had proved to them his resurrection. Jesus Christ now sends their minds back to an earlier conversation he had with them. He had already explained to them the very things that were prophesied about him in the Old Testament that must be fulfilled in him in verse 27.

And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself. (Luke 24:27, ESV)

This statement was to make them understand the Messiah more. And that even if they were still hardhearted and not convinced about Jesus's resurrection, they should visit the Old Testament and take the accounts about the Messiah and compare. So here we can say that Jesus was calling on his disciples to be apologetic. They should search for the truth about whom they follow and if His signs and resurrection are not enough to convince them. And that's what we are going to do now. Let's go to the Old Testament and see what the prophets and the psalms said concerning Jesus the Savior. The evidence can be divided into two parts. The first part concerning the role of Satan and the second about the role of God.

Prophecies concerning the role of Satan in his death.

We all know that the Roman soldiers crucified Jesus Christ. But the question that comes to our minds is what moved them to kill the innocent?. There must be a drive behind all these. Taking Satan's role, we see in the scriptures how Satan used most of the Romans and the Jewish leaders to kill Jesus. Satan tried to use Herod to slaughter Jesus when he was young.

16 Then Herod, when he saw that he had been tricked by the wise men, became furious, and he sent and killed all the male children in Bethlehem and in all that region who were two years old or under, according to the time that he had ascertained from the wise men. 17 Then was fulfilled what was spoken by the prophet Jeremiah: 18 "A voice was heard in Ramah, weeping and loud lamentation, Rachel weeping for her children; she refused to be comforted because they are no more." (Matthew 2:16-18, ESV)

Satan also used the Pharisee to condemn Jesus without a cause. The whole New Testament is filled with the Pharisee's opposition to Christ. We see also Satan using Christ's disciple to kill him-Judas Luke 22 :3 which it is a fulfillment of what David said in Psalm 41:9

Even my close friend in whom I trusted, who ate my bread, has lifted his heel against me. (Psalm 41:9, ESV)

And also in Zechariah 11:12-13

Then I said to them, "If it seems good to you, give me my wages; but if not, keep them." And they weighed out as my wages thirty pieces of silver. (Zechariah 11:12, ESV)

Prophecies concerning the role of God in his death.

The clearest verse is what has been entitled the suffering servant in the book of Isaiah 53.

Isaiah 53:6,10
[6]All of us, like sheep, have strayed away. We have left God’s paths to follow our own. Yet the Lord laid on him the sins of us all.
[10]But it was the Lord's good plan to crush him and cause him grief. Yet when his life is made an offering for sin, he will have many descendants. He will enjoy a long life, and the Lord's good plan will prosper in his hands.

Therefore behind all these things that the soldiers were doing to Jesus, there was the unseen hand of God. God was using these people to fulfill his purpose in his Son. So God killed his son as a sacrifice for sin. Jesus Christ was the righteous Lamb of God.

Jesus was rejected by God's doing

22 The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone. 23 This is the LORD's doing; it is marvelous in our eyes. (Psalm 118:22-23, ESV)

It was in God's plan that Jesus must be hated

Let not those rejoice over me who are wrongfully my foes and let not that wink the eye who hate me without cause. (Psalm 35:19, ESV)

God made the disciples abandon Jesus

"Awake, O sword, against my shepherd, against the man who stands next to me," declares the LORD of hosts. "Strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered; I will turn my hand against the little ones. (Zechariah 13:7, ESV)

Jesus would be pierced without a bone being broken

He keeps all his bones; not one of them is broken. (Psalm 34:20, ESV)
"And I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and pleas for mercy, so that, when they look on me, on him whom they have pierced, they shall mourn for him, as one mourns for an only child, and weep bitterly over him, as one weeps over a firstborn. (Zechariah 12:10, ESV)

These and many other Old Testament quotes talks specifically about Jesus and all of them were fulfilled. So Jesus is saying that everything about him was fulfilled. These disciples saw everything fulfilled and had nothing to cause them to wager in faith. Now Jesus had finished with his proof by showing by eating the fish and showing them the holes in his hands and feet. Also, he had gone to history to unmask all the things about him. So now we don't have any excuse to not believe in the death and the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

The Bible never tells lies,Jesus had all the powers to command the Roman soldiers .but rather to accomplish his mission he was submissive. This also tells us that to accomplish our mission as Christians, we need to be submissive.

God bless...

God bless

It is mysterious on how, His bones were not broken after all He went through.

Yeah. Very. It's unbelievable

Great teaching my friend. All the way back where God provides a covering for Adam and Eve.
Plus what Abraham said.
Gen 22:8 And Abraham said, My son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering: so they went both of them together.

Psa 22:16 For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have inclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet.
Psa 22:17 I may tell all my bones: they look and stare upon me.
Psa 22:18 They part my garments among them, and cast lots upon my vesture.
God bless!

Amen. Thanks for passing by my good friend.

Always my pleasure!
