INTRODUCTION

Peace to you! It's another day the Lord has made for us to go into the scripture to feed ourselves with the only food for the soul. Going into the scriptures, we continue from where we reached yesterday of which I promised at the end of my post that we will be discussing" the implications of this to the disciples in their missionary work." I will entreat you to visit the previous posts from the links provided at the end of today's message for a better understanding.

THE IMPORTANCE OF PERSONAL EXPERIENCE IN THE MISSIONARY WORK

We will concentrate on the same text we used yesterday. Which reads;

36 As they were talking about these things, Jesus himself stood among them, and said to them, "Peace to you!" 37 But they were startled and frightened and thought they saw a spirit. 38 And he said to them, "Why are you troubled, and why do doubts arise in your hearts? 39 See my hands and my feet, that it is I myself. Touch me, and see. For a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see that I have." 40 And when he had said this, he showed them his hands and his feet. 41 And while they still disbelieved for joy and were marveling, he said to them, "Have you anything here to eat?" 42 They gave him a piece of broiled fish, 43 and he took it and ate before them. (Luke 24:36-43, ESV)

THE INNER PEACE

It has become clear to us that these disciples, because of the great sin they had committed against the Lord Jesus Christ, were afraid of the judgment of God that would come upon them. They were Jews and therefore because of their knowledge of the Old Testament, understood what it meant to deny the Son of God . But in the midst of their frail hearts, their expectations of the curse and the verdict of eternal damnation coming upon them by the justice of God turned into peace from the One they had denied by His grace and mercy. Here they have peace.

In order to become a successful missionary, one needs to have a personal peace. Peace from within is what I'm talking about. The one that comes from Jesus. The one Jesus left with his disciples when He said

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. (John 14:27, ESV)

Without this personal and internal peace of the soul, one cannot do this work of soul winning. We are sent to preach Christ crucified to sinners and the peace that will come upon them as they believe this gospel. How can we go and preach this peace without we ourselves possessing it? We can't give what we don't have. Remember what God did to Jeremiah before he sent him;

Then the LORD put out his hand and touched my mouth. And the LORD said to me, "Behold, I have put my words in your mouth. (Jeremiah 1:9, ESV)

He had to eat the soul food he was sending to others. So in order to preach peace to wretched souls, we need peace in our wretched souls too. This inner peace comes to the sinners when he believes and is saved. It's the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22). So for us to possess this peace, we must first of all be born again into the family of Christ, where we inherit it. At this state, we are set free from our sins. Unlike these disciples who were afraid because of their sin against God, we are possessing the peace that he gave to them afterward and as a result hear God saying "peace to you!" in times of troubles and weaknesses.

This peace must also be there to propel the mission of soul winning. Imagine a man who does not have this inner peace accused by the devil. Will he be able to finish his work? Won't he leave the mission field because of a simple discomfort? That's why these disciples needed the peace. It helped them to expand the kingdom of God despite the opposition from the legalistic Jews.

THE PERSONAL EXPERIENCE OF HIS RESURRECTION

Finally, I want you to understand that every successful worker in the vineyard of God must have a personal encounter with Jesus Christ. When I say encounter, I mean a personal relationship with Christ. I'm not comparing our relationship with that of the Apostles. For theirs was a special case to set as the foundation of the Church. Every Apostle had to have a one on one interaction with the Person of Jesus Christ. They all saw the body of Jesus Christ. Paul saw him later in person.

Remember how Jesus convinced them of His bodily resurrection. He needed them to have a witness of it because without a firm grip of the doctrine of the resurrection, there's no gospel. The hope of all Christians is to rise with a glorious body with their Savior Jesus Christ into eternity. And this is only possible in light of the resurrection. So if you're a preacher and reading this message, I want to take this opportunity to entreat you to preach the resurrection of Jesus. It's our only hope.

Our personal experience of the risen body of Christ is through salvation as I've said earlier on. If we have a personal conviction of his resurrection, we are then legitimate to enter into his ministry. We don't wait for a bodily encounter with Jesus. We have already become priests and fellow workers with Christ the moment we believed in Christ for our salvation.

Preacher with all thy preaching, preach the gospel and don't forget that without the resurrection, you truncate it into a mere test book story.
