Praying The Right Way #2
Prayer is so important in the life of every believer. It is one of the spiritual exercises that our spirit needs to be able to commune with God. Prayer is like the air we breathe. It is a necessity for our daily survival and a source of power to have a constant victory over the enemy.

Prayer is something we cannot do without and we need it daily to stay connected to God. though praying daily is necessary but it is so important to know the rules governing prayer. A believer who doesn't know how to pray the right way always pray amiss. We can only know the right way to pray by going to the Scriptures and more importantlylearning from the one who taught about prayer.
Yesterday we learnt something from Jesus who used to pray and afterwards there was remarkable results. Prayer was one of his secrets for the manifestations of signs and wonders in his ministry. Today we continue the journey to learn how he taught on how we should pray.
And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples. And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth. Give us day by day our daily bread. And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. Luke 11:1-11
The first thing he showed the disciples about prayer was about their perception of God in prayer which I shared yesterday.
He tells them that God is their father and that is prayer is about a communication between u and our father. If we have this kind of mindset it would not be so difficult receiving anything we want when we pray.
Today we continue with the next thing he showed the disciples to do when they pray. He showed then that is more important to honour God first before making any request.
Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
The phrase "hollowed be thy name" means to acknowledge and declare that God is Holy. In prayer we must know that we are dealing with a father who is holy and therefore we should always ascribe honour to his name.

We should honour God and give him reverence when we pray for He alone deserves it. He has a great name which is powerful above every other name.
God is so keen about the glory and honour we give Him in prayer than even the things we request for He already knows them before we even ask.
His presence is made available ones when acknowledge Him as the only true and holy God. We should always begin to honour God's name first before any other thing we will want to out before him when we pray. God's name alone shows us all His character :
And the LORD descended in the cloud, and stood with him there, and proclaimed the name of the LORD. And the LORD passed by before him, and proclaimed, The LORD, The LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth, Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children's children, unto the third and to the fourth generation. And Moses made haste, and bowed his head toward the earth, and worshipped. Exodus 34:5-8
As the Lord passed by before Moses, He proclaimed His NAME before him. In other words the Lord made Himself know to Moses. He showed him his whole character. Moses after knowing and understanding the great name of the Lord made haste and bowed and worshipped God.
That should be our attitude in prayer. To pray rightly we should not think strange about God like other people but having knowledge of who He is and declaring it, that He is a God who is merciful, gracious, long suffering, abundant in goodness and truth, forgiving and just.
