Whale Wars : Banzai Dolphin
Greetings Steemians,
It's another historical day. A new Whale Wars entry has arrived. This time it's a dolphin. But not just any dolphin, a dolphin that shoots miniature torpedoes!
For this piece I was actually inspired by Japanese world war 2 fighter pilots. I wanted to try and capture that fearless determination as they go into battle.
The way torpedoes are shooting out, are also a little bit inspired by another thing from Japan. If you have ever watched an anime called Macross there is a unique way the fighters release a missile barrage. It is called an Itano Circus. Named after Ichirô Itano the artist , director and producer of the series. The missiles are always of deployed in a large quantity which twist and turn very artfully.
Process
Here is an animation of the entire process.
Selected Frames
Here is the pencil outline. Don't ask me why a dolphin needs to wear goggles underwater.
I gave him a circle on this forehead as a nod to the Hachimaki, the japanese headband worn as a symbol of courage.
I decided to add tattoos on the Dolphin to make him look more interesting. Giving him a tribal element to contrast with the tech.
Thanks for watching :D
