Guess @dosdudes already gave you the perfect explanation! Nevertheless just upvote posts you like even though your vote is worth "nothing" it shows the author you appreciate his work!

Will voting with no power mean it will take me much longer to build up a vote that is worth something? I do at least leave comments on the posts that I read and appreciate.
Short version: Voting on posts will actually earn you some curation and therefor your vote will be worth more in the future.
To be honest though I really urge you to read the welcome tab since it is quite important to understand how steemit works.
