RE: Vote Values in Steem Basic Income - Part One: Blockchain

Arrrghhh, my upvote is worth only 0.01 now, and we're not supposed to vote at all if it's not 0.02 or higher - furthermore, voting power: 88.79%, full in 13 hours - well, so much for upvoting as I see fit. Must exercise restraint.
Restraints! Aren't those what they use in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest?
Sorry... just feeling impotent, when I harbor delusions of grandly dispensing upvotes and approval!

I will absolutely second @josephsavage's endorsement of @dustsweeper. I've been using it since it launched it is brilliant at making sure small votes aren't wasted.

The FAQ here is worth a read - https://steemit.com/dustsweeper/@dustsweeper/dustsweeper-faq.

Dustsweeper.
I've ***got to get with the program ***!

You can (and should) upvote even below 0.02.

There are two different dust numbers. One is at roughly 0.001, and every vote is 'taxed' by that amount. The second is at payout. A post must have more than 0.02 to get payment. As long as it has at least 0.02 when all vote values are added together, then it will get paid.

So you shouldn't vote less than 0.02 on anything that doesn't already have 0.02, unless your vote will push it over. Then you should anyway. There is also a service called @dustsweeper that I use on my account and all SBI accounts. It will upvote any comments that already have an upvote by enough to push payout above 0.02. That way no smaller upvotes that we receive are ever wasted.

Edit: I deliberately upvoted your comment below 0.02. I'll come through later and upvote all the comments that actually add something to the discussion with an SBI account (this is pretty standard practice for SBI, actually). The total we be above 0.02 and your comment will get paid. You will be able to see that my upvote still contributes to the total payout of your comment, even though it was below 0.02.

Good to know! - @dustsweeper "will upvote any comments that already have an upvote by enough to push payout above 0.02. That way no smaller upvotes that we receive are ever wasted."
Thank you @josephsavage!

SO glad that you're helping people understand these things! We need more people spreading the good word of fact vs fiction!

Which is why I started doing an occasional wallet transfer in lieu of an upvote. Ten to 50 cents here, a dollar there. but it doesn't compute, or register, the way upvotes do.
Math and politics! Help! Bring on the Benadryl...

Upvotes! Send upvotes!

The lesson to be learned is, "the system is supposed to be designed so that ordinary use is encouraged" and you should use it however you want, without worrying too much about the nitty-gritty.
