Focusing Votes Towards the "introduceyourself" Topic and New Users

in #steem8 years ago (edited)

I'm going to make an effort to save my votes for the introduceyourself topic and new users in general no matter where they choose to post their intro message.

It would be cool if Steemit had someone controlling a whale account, or if we all just did it manually together, that would sniff out the new accounts intro post to be sure it's a real "new" person and not a duplicate account created to game our votes.

It would also be cool if Steemit helped us identify new users with a label like, "Steemian for n days" (or Steemer, User or whatever you prefer), like Reddit. That way if the user doesn't post an intro but instead simply makes a comment somewhere and we notice that they are new we can reward their comment and spread the STEEM around.

Is there a way for a bot to tell if a users account was created via Facebook? Although that can be gamed as well, but not as easily.

the Idea of belling users is good. I am on a forum where all users have ranks and labels according to their time on the forum. like newbie, jr member, sr member, hero member,
I am talking about bitcointalk.

Right now there is huge incentive to make fake accounts and introduce yourselves again and again.
People will stop voting for new members if it will be a case.

I would vote for people with meaningful posts to prevent abuse.

P.S. I make one and get upvoted by @ned, what was really crazy! There ware not such easy tipping in cryptohistory yet.

If you have ever seen the TV show Catfish then then you will know that people can create fake identities that people will fall in love with.

In my opinion, anyone willing to go through the effort to catfish the community probably deserves the rewards they get. In some ways these "fake" users help boost the appeal to "real" users to sign up.

I would caution against boosting them if they have already earned more than $10 of votes from the community for their introduction. I would also recommend that people who have quality facebook pages should get more upvotes than someone who has no other corroborating data. In other words, lets reward people who prove their Real Life Identity.

Damnit, voting is like crack. I can't stop doing it. I need to go to rehab I think. I've voted for 3 or 4 non-new user comments/post since posting this without even thinking about it.
