What Would I Do With A Gift of 1,000 Steem?

in #steem7 years ago

The question posed for today’s challenge is, “What would you do if someone gifted you 1,000 Steem?”

As many of you know, The Horse with No Name handles most of my financial and technical affairs as he’s more skilled in those areas. If he ever starts getting too big of a head from being so skilled, I just have him try to shoot a gun. He can’t hit the broad side of a mountain! Still, he’s really good with investing, taxes, and cryptocurrency, so I’ve consulted him on this. Between you and me, I’m not sure how he types with those huge hooves, but somehow he manages.

After consulting Horse, we’ve decided to make use of the intermittent and inconsistent time-travel aspect of our story. In your present timeline of 2018, we would sell the 1,000 Steem as there are no computers in our regular timeline. We’d have no use for them. However, we would be able to make use of the money.

  • We’d trade 1,000 Steem for $4,020 at current rates
  • We’d trade the $4,020 for 243.78 troy ounces of silver
  • We’d take that silver back to the 1800s where we’re actually from, and we’d buy a town and name it "Nameless"

There were too many towns in the old west that were run by gangsters and thugs. There should have been a town for the good people who wanted to live their lives farming and whatnot without all the ruckus and murdering. Horse and I would set up such a town, and we’d run it so that people could just farm and or something.

Because we would own the town, we’d get to enjoy the fruits of their labor by selling them supplies, weapons (for hunting), and whatever else they needed. We’d also set up a plan where people could work our land in exchange for a set amount of the yield. That way we’d be getting use out of our land and not having to actually dig holes. Horse said he was too proud to pull a plow. He wasn’t shy about telling me that he wanted someone to be planting a whole field of carrots and a small grove of apples trees.

There you have it! It’s probably not the best plan, but since Horse is the money guy, I’m deferring to him on this one. Hopefully it pays off and when we make it back to 2018 we’ll be a lot richer. By the way, when Steem comes out in 2016, we’re totally going to mine a bunch so we can spread rewards to all of you kind folks. Thanks for reading. Send carrots. We’re almost out!

Now, are you sure you can trust this Horse character? He won't leave you stranded in the past and return to the present with the loot, power up your account and start spamming horse meme?

Yeah, Horse and I have been through a lot together. I've had his back and he's had mine. If he turned on me, I'd be dead anyways, so it's not something I think about. Besides, he hates horse memes. He says they're demeaning so won't even look at them. :)

Hmmmmm... 1000 steem! Wawuuuu😊😊
That should almost complete my building project and i'll also invest in other businessses with it.

There you go! What's your building project? Any idea what other businesses you'd invest in?

Yea... Building project, I mean a house. Yaasss
And business, well I'm sure gonna invest in my bridal make-up business and also was thinking of starting food business.
All these sure can't happen without money.😊
So glad you replied. Wow

That's cool. I hope you're able to get your house finished. It's nice to have your own place. Hopefully the property taxes aren't super high where you live.
It sounds like you have a lot of good ideas. I hope that you're able to pursue them. Often we have to take small steps and if we do it repeatedly, we're able to get where we want to go.
Happy to reply. I appreciate you stopping by! Enjoy your day. :)

Awwww thanks so much. Sure, consistency is key, that has been my watchword. I really hope i'm able to achieve that before the end of the year. Thanks so much.

You're welcome. Thanks again for reading my little story.

If I have 1000 steem I will certainly power up into steem power and increase my influence and voting power thereby earning v more rewards from my content. Or better still I will delegate my Steem power to bots or individuals and be earning some passive income from it. Sorry am not into 1800 ,am in the 2018 digital generation @themanwithnoname

I think that a lot of people are in the same boat as you, @obest. There is a lot of money to be made here and most people don't have access to 1800s America, so they don't even consider it. Enjoy 2018!

We’d trade 1,000 Steem for $4,020 at current rates

This point is one of the things I will do with the steem and then use it to trade other cryptocurrency while I pray that steem should fall to 2 or 1 dollar so that I can invest again but if it does not fall then I invest in powering up my steem account

That's another totally valid approach. As long as you're accomplishing your goals, then I think it's a win. It sounds like you don't have a lot of faith in Steem for the short-term, so divesting to something else could be a good plan. If it comes back down, then you can buy in even cheaper. :)

I have hope on the steem platform because for it to be able to pay my fees in school and be feeding me since January then there is definitely going to be hope for it to rise but while making provisions for steem to rise. We also create room for possible fall because cryptocurrency is very volatile especially the up coming ones like steem and eos

That's cool you've been able to pay your school fees using Steem. It's nice to hear stories like that. I haven't pulled anything out yet, but even if I did, it wouldn't go very far here, so I leave it ini and hope that it continues to grow.

With the 1000 steem, weather it falls or rise. Am very much going to profit. Thank you very much

Ah, good ol' Horse. Always there to bail you out. Even if your real hide isn't on the line, he's there to save your financial hide.

Pretty entertaining, as usual. The time travel deal, now that I think about it, isn't so much a story gimmick as it is a necessity. Kind of can't get to here from there and back without it.

I find your science and thought process for the use of 1,000 STEEM to be sound. I'm wondering, though, if this hasn't already happened to you, because there is a place called Nameless in Tennessee. I hate to say this, but it hasn't amounted to much over the years. It's perfect, though, because no one really knows how it got its name, though there are different accounts.

Anyway, hello future, welcome to the past. :)

He's gotten us this far. I don't see a need to change it. Also, it gives me plausible deniability. :D

It's true. There are so many issues with having a character from the 1800s who is in the 2000s. That's ok though. I have time travel to help me out.

Dang it! They stole my idea in the future from my past! And they squandered it. You meant to tell me that they didn't make a name for themselves?!!!!

To be fair, they might have wanted better marketing if they weren't going to choose another name. Poverty Flats didn't amount to much until they changed their name to Redding. Heh. And they're right next to Whiskeytown Lake which is a lovely spot to hang out. I've been there and even if it were called Poverty Flats, I don't think I would have objected to living there. The issue is moving and finding work, blah, blah, blah. Always reasons. ;)

I didn't know Redding used to be called Poverty Flats. Glad the PR people did a makeover. We've been there a few times. It's a great place. Too bad it's still California, although, some people have been trying to change that.

You could have gone with No Name. That's in Colorado. Unfortunately, it amounted to less, so Nameless is actually the better choice. However, it's named after No Name Creek and No Name Canyon, which I think is awesome. :) And there's a No Name Tunnel and the town's sign has been in a movie!

One can never have enough plausible deniability.

Yeah, the PR people for PF changed the name. Smart. Yeah, it's not too bad. It's sort of in the middle of nowhere, but there's really beautiful scenery around there if you like mountains and lakes. I had heard that people were trying to changes its status, but haven't heard if they made progress.

Hmm, I have a friend who lives in Colorado. I could visit him if I placed the town there. It's probably somewhere in the southwest though. I don't remember how much travelling I did. It happens when I time travel to the future. Sometimes the details of the past get muddled. Don't worry, I remember when I get back to the past.

Full disclosure: This is not TMWNN. He hired me to write it for him. ;)

I think I figured out a while ago that I was talking to the man behind The Man With No Name. Or something. Anyway, at least you have a full-time writing gig. :)

Redding is a place my wife and I have talked about living. It's about a 5-6 hour drive from here, it would put us closer to her family in Southern California, and as you say, it really is beautiful country. The cost of the properties I looked at five or six years ago now were a little steep, though, so I stopped. Plus, it's high enough that it snows quite a bit during the winter, which I guess wouldn't be so bad once you got used to it.

Unfortunately, the initiative to divide California into five or six different states didn't even make it to the ballot, I don't think, which is funny, because those opposing it know very well they wouldn't be able to tax and spend as much as they do now if they didn't have the help from the rest of the state. The places around San Francisco and Oakland tend to be the most left-leaning, while the rest of the state, with the exceptions of Sacramento (because it's the capital), and some other places I'm sure, lean more to the right.

Similar thing happens here, just that it's more apparent that it's divided between the smaller towns and rural areas and the three main population centers—the greater Portland metropolitan area, Eugene and Salem.

Yeah, I was thinking TMWNN is probably in the Southwest, too—Arizona, New Mexico, even southern California in the 1800s works. Anyway, I just found it humorous that Nameless was taken. :)

Here is a gift for Horse and you to help out with your plan. I ordered Non GMO seeds, to assure a healthy future for you both. He may want stop in to 1997 and pick up some Amazon stock for under $2.00 a share.

My only question is does Horse realize that if his financial plan goes according to plan he will become a Whale?

Thank you so much! He doesn't know what non-GMO is because in our timeline they're just called "carrots." You don't have to specify because food is food there. Strange, right?

Yes, Amazon Stock would be a good thing for him to buy. I'll make sure he knows so the next time we come through then we can pick some up.

He has realized that, but he really loves to swim, so he thinks of himself as part fish. He's also really large, so Whale will suit him just fine! Good thinking though!

The matter is not clear to me, I just can not understand what I write?

Sorry, I don't follow what you're trying to say.
