Why Steemit Is More Important Than Abraham Lincoln
Do Not Read This If You Are The Easily Offended Type
If you are the easily offended type and you’ve kept reading anyway; piss off, go away.
Lincoln’s Executive Order issued on Jan 1, 1863, better known as The Emancipation Proclamation changed the legal standing of about 3 million slaves in the South from “slave” to “free”.
The fact that it didn’t affect the slaves in the Union areas is something that can be debated elsewhere.
Steemit gives an opportunity to the segment of the roughly 7,432,663,275 (as of 2016) inhabitants on this planet, who have access to the internet, to be free from wage slavery.
Before you go off on me about wage slavery not being the same as human slavery, put together some credentials for me showing where you were a slave and exactly how you have suffered.
Human slavery does still exist on this big blue marble, but if you’re reading this, the chances are pretty good you ain’t one of the poor souls trapped in it.
My great-grandfather came to Murica with $13 in his pocket.
I have less than that in my pocket right now.
So if you want to be a victim, go peddle your fish somewhere else.
Recognize This Guy?
No, not the actor Gary Cole, but the character he portrayed in the movie Office Space; Bill Lumbergh.
I worked for this guy for more than 3 years, his last name wasn’t Lumbergh but his first name actually was Bill.
What a Dick.
Pause here and consider why this film has such a cult following.
Because nearly everyone, except for the Bill Lumberghs of this world, can relate.
Someone else controls your schedule.
Someone else decides what you’re going to produce.
Someone else decides how much of the money from your hard work, you get to keep.
Someone else.
Someone else.
Someone else.
Steemit gives you the power, not someone else.
It’s entirely up to you.
Work when you want, on what you want and while it’s not perfect, very little middle man to skim off the cream of the fruits of your labor.
Reality Check:
You’re on your own (unless you join #minnowsupportproject).
You don’t get paid to punch in, sit at your desk and punch out.
Maybe you suck at what you’re trying to do here.
Sorry, some of you do.
But, you can work to get better; improve your skills, even get help from people (join #minnowsupportproject) who know what they're doing.
Steemit is an equal opportunity enterprise.
There are plenty of people getting ridiculous payouts because they were born pretty or they worked out at the gym to get that “perfect” body and they can market their wares to other people all too eager to vote up almost seeing some tits.
Nobody wants to see mine.
I don’t care. (Actually, if you wanted to see my tits, I’d recommend getting some professional help.)
But that’s the beauty of Steemit.
I can write words; sometimes goodly, sometimes I use a semi-colon correctly.
I can take insignificant pictures or make smart ass comments that some people appreciate.
And the marketplace can determine a value.
Time for another reality check:
If you really open yourself up and put your heart & soul into something, you’re going to feel vulnerable.
Some asshole might make an insensitive comment.
You might not get comments or upvotes at all.
You might feel like you’ve wasted your time and effort for nothing.
You might feel rejected.
You might not get anything more than a 0.001 payout.
But you’ll never know unless you try.
And if you never try, you’ll never have the opportunity to put something out there that was exactly what 1 person needed, at that very moment.
Google the Butterfly Effect.
Not the movie, I’m so tired of Ashton Kutcher, can’t he just go away?
Consider the Butterfly Effect and then multiply that effect by a conservative number, say 1 billion people.
Help change the world we live in to a “slightly-more” fair place.
We are, after all, still humans, not perfect by any stretch of the imagination.
Take a chance, join in a bigger community, contribute.
Rinse & Repeat.
Don’t give up.
I'll leave you with a quote from Henry David Thoreaux,
"The mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation.
What is called resignation is confirmed desperation.
From the desperate city you go into the desperate country, and have to console yourself with the bravery of minks and muskrats.
A stereotyped but unconscious despair is concealed even under what are called the games and amusements of mankind.
There is no play in them, for this comes after work.
But it is a characteristic of wisdom not to do desperate things.”
Here is you opportunity to do something "deliberate" in and for your life.
Special thanks to @nonameslefttouse , our recent discussion inspired a big chunk of this.
@aggroed and everyone involved in #minnowsupportproject you are all special people.
I'm not even going to add the perfunctory upblah, reblah and folblah.
This was kind of like therapy.
I do like the term wage slave, but people tend to get upset when it is used, the reality is the masses are slaves to the monetary system which makes them a slave to an employer.
Bingo.
Do you think Daniel Day-Lewis would come out of retirement to play Steemit? That would be Oscar bait.
As long as it isn't Ashton Kutcher.
Dude, stop, my vote power is already down to 44%.
I'm so offended. Actually I enjoyed reading that. It was kinda like therapy 😜 Now I'm off to check out that #minnowsupportproject that I've heard about, but have no idea what it's about.
I'm g;ad you liked it @daddykirbs.
#minnowsupportproject is all about people; people helping people; are the luckiest people, in the world...
A great read my friend.
Thanks
What if the #minnowsupportproject is just a trap by a whale to eat all the minnows?!?!

This, sir, is the best thing I've read today! Love it!
Thank you so very much.
It did make me feel a little vulnerable, I hope I can get used to that.
There is so much truth in your post. I think too many people are wandering off the path and forgetting that money is best "earned" instead of "made". Making money is pretty much illegal. Earning it is hard work but so much fun! Treat it like a game and get that high score.
And you just might help someone along the way too.
