Unity Is Crucial For STEEM: Our Greatest Strength Must Be Maintained

in #steem6 years ago (edited)

The other day we saw the 2nd birthday for this platform.

From what I understand, it was a rough two years. That is to be expected when dealing with a start-up. Also, with an industry so young, we are going to see larger growing pains that affect all cryptocurrency, including STEEM.

At this point, STEEM is one of the leading blockchains. With zero transaction costs and 3 second transaction time, there is not another blockchain that can beat it.

We also cleared 900K subscribers the other day according to @penguinpablo. We are consistently seeing 60K daily active users on this platform. Decentralized social media is not a pipe dream, it is already operational.

That said, what stands out with STEEM is the community. The 60K daily users are a dedicated bunch. We see articles posted through think and thin. Some have pulled back with the recent downturn in price...yet most are still actively posting. This is a testament to the type of people we have on here.

Another aspect is the selflessness on the part of many. We see hundreds, if not thousands, trying to help out the newer people. This only makes community grow tighter and stronger.

One fascinating aspect about blockchain is that every improvement makes the entire ecosystem increase in value. There is no competition since all is on the same network. As D.Tube, for example, grows, so does the entire community. We can say the same for Dsound, Zappl, Busy, and, now, Dporn. All these applications, whether one uses them or not, reside on this blockchain. Whatever interests people is pulling them into the STEEM ecosystem.

This is one of the reasons why many are so excited about SMTs. That has the potential to draw millions onto this network, all of them requiring STEEM to operate.

As STEEM gets more popular, it is going to face outside challenges. To start, the traditional social media companies are not even giving STEEM a look at this time. We are the proverbial flea on a dog...a minor nuisance at this time. That will not always be the case. Reddit, Twitter, Google (YouTube), and Facebook will wake up to the threat when it becomes evident. Make no mistake about it, they are not going to sit back and lose their hundreds of millions (or billions) without a fight.

The same goes for the banksters. Do not believe for a second that they are going to passively stand by and watch STEEM become an entire, self contained digital ecosystem where people basically receive most of the benefits they get in the bankster world. Ultimately, I believe that STEEM can be a place where people work, interact, and shop; activities which we normally have to turned to bankster controlled organizations to fulfill.

This means we are going to see a backlash from some very powerful players. Since this is blockchain, the results are already in. There is nothing these entities can do to stop what is taking place. Decentralization is going to overwhelm them. The Internet is coming to money which means abundance and disruption for the existing structures. STEEM took this one step further by introducing said money to social media.

That said, we need to stand together as one when this does occur. STEEM is very much under the radar at this time. I do not believe that will always be the case. When it appears in more than just a few articles on sites such as Medium, the gloves will come off. STEEM is way ahead of everyone else in terms of the applications it actually provides. We are witnessing the foundation being laid that will totally disrupt social media.

People need to stop worrying about minor stuff. We see a lot of petty bickering on here. People need to put their egos aside. While many want to make some of the things we witness into a big deal, it presently is not. If you think that is a big deal, just wait until the banksters or Google start to play hardball. Then you will really see a challenging situation.

For all the faults that Bitcoin has, one of its greatest advantages is there is a loyal, dedicated base which is all about Bitcoin. There are times when factions start splitting, which results in a fork. I recently read that BCash has less nodes now than Lightning Network. That is very telling to me. The fork meant the disgruntled people took their pail but couldn't take over the sandbox. The core Bitcoin people remained strong.

STEEM, along with every other cryptocurrency, is aided by Bitcoin. It is the target of most FUD. Bitcoin is the name, it is recognized, and it is at the top of every MSM FUD report. The other cryptocurrencies get to hide behind it. The only exception might be Ethereum since that received a lot of publicity.

Notice how every little thing about Bitcoin is picked apart. One negative and it is plastered all over Bloomberg and CNBC. Even if it is a situation that is corrected, the mantra is played repeatedly. This is how they operate.

What do you think happens when that kind of attention gets turned to STEEM? Do you think Google is above manipulating the results so that the STEEM results where people are tearing each other apart are ranked first while the positive ones are way down? Personally, I can see them doing that. What do you think Zuckerberg, or worse, Michelle Lee, will do with that information? The MSM will have a field day with it.

There is nothing as powerful as a dedicated group of people unified for a greater purpose. STEEM has tremendous potential. Outside forces cannot derail it although they will make life tough. Unity is the surefire to counteract the FUD that they will spread. Each day the blockchain grows not only in activity, but also innovation.

All of this makes the entire ecosystem more powerful. Unity is what it will keep it there.

Great post @taskmaster4450. Lets join hands to make steem platform great.

All attention is good attention.

We need the gawkers as much as we need the “good people”.

Maybe the steem drama will bring people in? With us being so small, maybe the drama will bring them but the community will keep them?

Are sign ups getting any better? 200,000 active users would do $ome good.

You are right. When the industry is so small all new attention is great. Since it puts new information into peoples minds. Drama always brings more new people in. People are bored so they will surely research deeper into this Blockchain thing. New active users will grow much slower than user sign ups but it doesn't matter. Steady growth is usually great.

As the price of Steem becomes even more attractive because of the market FUD, more value will be generated as everything you mention develops. Assets will start to perform on their merits which could lead to Steem outperforming the market. This may be one of the best opportunities to get in.

Ya, it will be interesting to see what happens when the current big players start to take notice. As long as we all keep showing up and building steemit and the relationships we make here there isn't much they can do to stop it. Word of mouth is a legitimate form of advertising, with a few tweaks steemit will be rolling in new accounts, we'll hit critical mass or something

This is a great article @taskmaster4450 and I 100% agree with everything you wrote. I feel the people who stick around are definitely doing it for something beyond the money, however, to improve unity in the Steemit community there has to be a clear definition of what Steemit wants to be: a blog, and Instagram of beautiful pictures, a crowdsourcing place for jobs, a contest driven platform, a place for bots to multiply your money...

Maybe the same things that make Steemit great and open and undefined play a role in its success and the overall quality vs. quantity ratio. It can't be all about strategies, schemes and hacking the system. I think the latter play against a united community.

I do believe in Steemit and the core values of cryptos. And that makes me come again and again, even if I can't post, I want to know more about this group of like-minded people and hopefully build strong bonds. I like to upvote on posts with valuable content and I also want to get feedback to improve my posts as well.

Interacting, like @fullcoverbetting points out is key for this community to thrive and take over.

I believe there’s room for steemit to be a blog, a picture forum, a contest place etc, all in one. As long as there’s an audience...

Such a great post! I'm hosting a meeting this weekend where I will be ending it with an announcement toward steem. I might have to use this....

Excellent....use anything you can that you think will help.

Google will for sure rank Steem lower if they will see it as a dangerous thing!
You were taking about the selflessness of most people here, which is 100% true.
I do appreciate you, taking time to respond to almost all genuine comments, placed on your posts! Which is actually amazing, cause you are always getting a lot of comments on your post. This makes yourself genuine.
Even I, we do have some disagreements about the future, always gets a response.
More people should do this! I hate it when I do place a genuine comment combined with a question without getting a reply. It this happens twice from the some author, I will label him as a money hungry wolf!
So firstly, we maybe should start be getting an even better community, starting the strength ourselves and be prepared for a whole lot of buckets full of FUD!

Thank you for the comment @fullcoverbetting.

At times, it is tough...comments do get lost so there are times I do not reply, not out of spite or malice but because I didnt see the post.

You are right. As I am reading your comment, the words be the change you want to see were coming to my mind. We each have a responsibility, if we are truly to committed to this platform, to do the things necessary. I write frequently about the value of posts...it is something that I also have to put into practice.

Commenting is a huge contribution, on so many levels.

I understand where you are coming from with the not getting replies. There are many who comment on my posts, I will reply, and then nothing. Perhaps they do not see the comment (using Busy.org can alleviate this). Nevertheless, it does become frustrating at times.

I know that you are always trying to reply, so no problem.
Commenting is according to me more valuable, than actually writing the initial post. The initial post, does give the people the chance to interact with the author or other commenters. It's like the fuel of Steemit. It is a shame, that not enough of us see it this way!
I did wrote a post today that Steemit sometimes looks like a circle of friends and that people don't take the effort to expand their circle or try to build a new circle. (you can read on my blog) One of the comments I did receive (@tradurgurl for the idea) is that steem sometimes more looks like a café where everybody shouts a lot of things, but only a few react on questions. I always try to respond on each genuine comment or reply I do receive. Cause we can't call Steemit a social media platform if there is no interaction!

But also in Steemit you can browse through the replies one is getting. So not getting notifications is no excuses, according to me! Sometimes it is hard to know when the interaction has ended or not.
Let's stick together and make Steemit a great place to come. Where people do share different viewpoints and discuss these with respect for another vision!

Depending upon the topic of discussion, there is a lot of wisdom in the comment section...like you said, it is often a more valuable resource than the article itself.

An article is one person's view...the comments can have many people sharing their insights.....

Good analogy...

My real concern with corporate and MSM attention to STEEM and particularly to Steemit, is how they can manipulate so many things by simply buying lots of SP. Their ability to do that outpaces what any individual can do. We may find ourselves in a situation where the whales need to ban together to actively resist even a single corporations dominance of the platform. We've had difficulty responding effectively to individuals with a fraction of the SP a corporation could direct if they saw a reason to either use the platform to promote their own agenda or simply destroy the platform to continue with their current dominance.

Ideally they could do that. But there are many people involved and it's not like they are that smart when it comes to new tech. Many actually look forward to a new system.
