Convergence: The Key To STEEM's Massive Explosion In The Near Future: Part 3

in #steem8 years ago

This is the 3rd part of a series as to why I believe we are going to see an explosion in STEEM due to a convergence of many variables all aligning up properly.

To review the reasoning:

  1. The advancement of cryptocurrencies in general over the last 9 years: there were some successes and a host of failures, failures that led to knowledge causing developers to approach things differently.

  2. People are fed up with government: Even governments are fed up with each other as evidenced by Venezuela and Russia discussing a currency together to break the USD stranglehold on them. Even governments are tired of the tyranny of fiat currency.

  1. Wall Street is here: $140B increase in crypto market cap can be only be done by the money-raising power of the Street. They love a good story which means the "next Facebook" really excites them.

  2. Rich and Poor alike can acquire STEEM: Wall Street can buy whatever it wants but the average person does not have that advantage. STEEM offers people the opportunity to get involved without any money. In fact, steemit pays people a small amount of STEEM to get started.

Major technological innovations do not happen in a vacuum. Instead, they are the result of years of research in many different fields which all came together at one time. It is almost as if everything magically lined up at that moment in history. Often, some will attribute it to luck but it is far from it. This convergence of breakthroughs is what makes revolutionary ideas happen in technology.

The Internet is siloed and people are becoming well aware of this fact. This entire medium is controlled by only a few entities. Amazon, Microsoft, Apple, Google, and Facebook wield tremendous control. Everything we do online is monitored by at least one of these companies. People realize they have no privacy anymore.

To make matters worse, these entities are not just monitoring, they are actively programming. The truth is starting to emerge how these companies filter the information people see. Facebook getting its panties in trouble with the election situation is a prime example. Whether they were involved or not matters none. What is important is people realize that the news they are receiving is anything but news. It is information that is pushed by those with an agenda. Naturally, it is easy to make the case this was always what occurred yet now it is becoming overt.

A tweet was sent out by Netflix mentioning the 53 people who watched some Christmas special everyday for the past 18 days (my numbers might be off but you get the point). This astonished people because here is an open admission that Netflix monitors exactly what people watch AND that information is accessible by employees. This is a major red flag. Rarely does a week go by that news does not leak about the spying these entities are doing on us. I believe we are starting to get to a point where people are getting concerned. The masses sleep for a long time but when they awaken, it gets ugly.

Which brings up the other point of their spying: not only do they monitor what each of us is doing, they sell the information to advertisers. Each of these companies is making their Wall Street friends very wealthy by selling personal data to advertisers. With the analytics of today, people movements are recorded so that each habit is known. This detailed information is used to explore and exploit every area of our lives. This situation is only getting worse with the new "personal assistants" that Google, Amazon, and Apple are bringing out.

Trust is disappearing. Not only did Facebook end up with egg on its' face (no pun intended there) over the Russia/election mess, they also were caught lying about the number of users they have. Of the two billions accounts they claim, anywhere from 1/3 to 1/2 could either be duplicate or bots. While the number of true users is still astounding, it just shows another instance where these companies are not trustworthy.

The trouble with the silos is your account can be closed at any time, without warning. All power is in their hands. Censorship, especially on Facebook and YouTube, is rampant. If you are not toeing the proper line in terms of what they deem appropriate, then your account is closed and content removed. The nanny state moved from government acting as big brother to these corporate behemoths.

It only takes looking on Yahoo Finance at the institutional investors to see who really controls these companies. Wall Street is made up of bankers and they are the ones who own the largest percentage of stock. Hence we are back to the same slave system. Unlimited fiat enables them to buy up whatever they desire. They run their pump and dump schemes (only they do it with the entire economy) which allows them to bail out at the top and buy back when the assets are cheap. This model was run for the past 100 years with great success.

People are starting to realize what cryptocurrencies offer. This is a path to freedom for many. People on steemit are not enriching Wall Street. Every upvote has a value, both on here and on Facebook. The only difference is on Facebook, the upvoter and content creator get nothing while Zuckerberg and the other stock holders on Wall Street profit. This is another example of how corporate entities profit off the backs of the average person. What is incredible about the Facebook and YouTube models is they do not even have to pay the people like most companies do. Instead, people volunteer to be enslaved through ignorance. Thankfully, many are waking up to that fact.

As I stated in the last post, STEEM is a token that allows people to get involved without any money. The only way to really shares in the profits off their back on Facebook is to cough up some money and buy the stock. For most, this is not a viable option. As soon as one's steem account is approved, he or she can start posting and receive compensation 6 days later.

This entire ecosystem is roughly 18 months old. It will take time for people to become aware of what is going on here. Blockchain as a concept is also starting to enter the psyche of people. As it does, the benefit of de-centralization will need to be stressed. On steem, nobody is monitoring your activities or accumulating data to sell to advertisers. In fact, there is no need for an adblock on steemit since there are no ads. This is an entirely new model which will become known to millions in 2018. Once people start to see others making money off doing things they normally do, that will start another stampede.

The herd from Wall Street is already here with their money; the herd from Main Street is just around the corner.

All the points you make here are valid, however, my concern is that the average user simply doesn't care about them. Facebook has the power to remove accounts and stop people from using their service, but how often do they actually do it? I personally don't know of anybody that has happened to, and I don't think the average user has run into that as a problem either. Smart people clearly understand that a decentralised model is better, but until there really becomes an obvious problem with censorship and closed accounts I don't think this will be a reason for the masses to switch.

I think the closing of accounts tends to occur more frequently on YouTube over facebook.

The monitoring of information, selling of it, and the manipulation of content, that is starting to garner headlines.

It does take a long time for the masses to wake up...that is certainly a fact. Nevertheless, I believe each headline is simply another chink in their armor.

facebook creeps me out how accurate it finds ppl that i possibly know very creepy...
also nextdoor is another social app i refuse to use...

Fortunately, I am not familiar with nextdoor....

Yes FB is very good at the tracking and surveillance game...in fact they mastered it.

Of course people putting every aspect of their lives up there certainly helps.

nextdoor is another level of facebook...some of the founders of nextdoor are former NSA even more creepy...and your right ppl put everything on facebook pics of guns filming crimes...its like ppl have lost there minds....

I am glad I missed it.

I do know of some people who have had content sensored or removed on fb. In the long run, the people will eventually chase the money. They always have and always will... and it will happen quickly.

Yeh that's right, the money will be a bigger incentive for sure. We just need to make sure that people don't come and abuse the system

It could use a little "tweeking!" But it's all good in the long run.

I've been censored on Facebook before and I don't actively use it anymore for that reason. I was banned from Periscope after my very first show on there and my main channel on YouTube was targeted and terminated (with 30k subscribers) because of the Google Gestapo. What this author is talking about is very real and things must change.

Fortunately independent content creators like us can immediately turn to Steemit and DTube and actually have a chance at making a living doing what we do. Both platforms need a lot of work as far as being able to browse for content but the future is looks bright here atm. I don't know if I agree in the upside of STEEM in particular, but I hope you're right. I'm holding mine in my wallet until I see the price multiply like SBD did recently, but I'm not holding my breath for that. Upvoted and resteemed.

Just out of interest, what was the subject of your content and what did you post that got you banned/censored?

It appears from his page that it is illuminati/conspiracy/David Icke type stuff.

The content really doesn't matter. I know big YouTubers have been hit because of high earnings on Google Adsense. My account has not been hit that hard because I have a modest amount of subscribers. It is the big money earners that have been "pinched" for their revenues. I think YouTube's profit margins were under attack and they claimed "family friendly" as a reason for the cut-back in advertising revenues. I have my doubts... it's all about profit. Now I recently noticed that Google Adsense will no longer be providing YouTube earnings analytics on the Adsense site come early next year. Something is going on!

I know of several people who this has happened to.

awesome post on steemit .

Steemit moving onward and upward next best brightest thing in the world for the people.

I saw this exact problem over a year ago, so i canceled my netflix, hulu and fb. Thankfully i found steemit a few months ago so i can still put my thoughts out there. The nanny state is out of control, hopefully blockchain can change this nasty system.

I figured out a while ago Facebook was spying on us. I deleted the Facebook app off my phone when I started posting regularly on Steemit.

A while back, my wife got an ad on her Facebook feed for child fever medication the day after our son got sick, and I got an ad just before that to buy sports memorabilia of a hockey player whom i was talking about on my phone just the day before. No way that was a coincidence.

More incentive to crash those sites along with Wall Street!

Eyes and ears... everywhere! Reminds me of the movie "The Firm."

All too true, I’m afraid.

Good post steemit😊

i think the future of steemit is bright...

I'm wearing Steemit Shades! 😎😎😎

So do I. Real bright...😎

Steem offers a world with different rules. They may be harsh rules at times, but they apply to all. NO RULEZ!!!!

I´m totally new here and trying to "get" the dynamics behind Steem. One thing that is bothering me though, is that there is also a hierarchical structure build in the system - it´s not directly about money, but it´s about a social hierarchy. So in a sense, Steem is not much different than other hierarchies in RL. Here also the people with huge SP gain more and more attention, while the newcomers have a hard time to be heard. I know, that this is the way in every new social media platform, where you need time to build your follower base, but making this so obvious with different kinds of scores/tokens, makes influence a factor of social acceptance. I´m not sure, if this is better than fiat money as a "score" of success....

Being new, what have you contributed to this network or site? What have you done for the blockchain?

Nothing...and your account reflects that.

Those with a big SP, have contributed a lot. They usually are here a long time which means they had time to build it up. Yet they also posted and contributed a lot over that time. Also, many poured money into STEEM when it was a much riskier investment. Therefore, they were able to prop up a falling token when things were looking grim. Steemit had its problems over the 1.5 years in operation and the whales, for the most part, were there the entire time suffering through it. Sure, there are some who profit without much effort but that isnt all of them.

Contribute each day as much as you can and talk to me in 4 or 5 months...I am sure your account will not reflect what it does today.

Sure - don´t get me wrong, I´m not complaining, I just signed up yesterday - so it´s not about me personally at all...
My observation was more in general terms and questioning whether putting a number behind a social status is necessarily "better" than the number we attach to money in RL?
For me, it seems to be the same dynamic...
...and also I´m not saying that this is bad in any way - it´s just not different....
Even when you say, that I have to invest into the blockchain - which I may do anyway over the next months, because it is fun - is the same argument as saying that you have to work for money.
I don´t see the advantage in regards of trading time/work for money/steem

The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it, ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is.
