Does steem need a new face as a currency?
Bitcoin seems to be the face of the cryptocurrency world and for some bitcoin isn't a currency of good reputation, even till date. Many crypto-novice still have the notion from years ago about bitcoin as it, being a means to execute shady deals, black market, tax evasion etc They haven't still come to know of the beauty of it, in terms of privacy, security etc
The easiest way to beginning your explanation, even of steem to a total crypto-novice, is to go:
Do you know bitcoin?
And they go:
Yes!
Then you go:
"Oh steem is like bitcoin?"
And your answer here, can so easily be an instant negative depending on how you have answered!
So how do you answer this question?
Any suggestions?
@zurvanic, how to you market steem as a currency to people who don't like to hear about crypto or to people who have it instilled in them, that bitcoin is tied to corruption?

But what when, you have 2 minutes and you can't show someone steemit.com?
There have been talks about calling cryptocurrencies, more identifiable-with names; like smart money or digital currency and i had this plan on going for my US BUSINESS INTERVIEW which happened Mar 31st, 2017!
I had applied to go to the Summer Steem workshop 2017 in USA!
After talks with @papa-pepper @sykochica to help with decision making, i had my interview!
It looked all rosey, from the onset, till 'steemit' came up.
As i was going for a steem workshop; i had to touch on what steemit is as she wanted to know what the steem workshop is and why i need to be in USA version of it.
I doubt the she knew much about steemit before now as she halted me during my explanation and she said:
"oh steem is something like bitcoin".
Knowing that bitcoin is more familiar to people, i said yes but i said this is a special currency tied to a community of great minds, who innovate stuff daily; but it was just a downward trend there upon.
She did look impressed but her "NO" (U.S visa denial) was blatant and without much emotion as she handed me a paper that explains why. Then i knew it may have had to do with the bitcoin thing.
Unlike other cases, where you may be allowed to appeal their decisions; this paper said:
This decision is unappealable but you can apply again once circumstances changed.
Before i had this experience; I did entertain fears, that the interview could go this way especially if the interviewer didn't know about steem but now i know even more:
Steem needs a face of its OWN and especially, when marketing or selling it to newbies and non-crypto people.
People still, are more familiar with bitcoin but they tie it too, to shady deals and stuff!
Steem has to be presented as a thing of beauty and with its very OWN FACEThe question is how?

I think we need to educate more people about what is STEM and Steemit, then there will be more investors interested in the development of the platform and the STEM itself. But Bitcoin vsetaki has already firmly taken first place.
no doubt bitcoin is the face of crypto but steem can definite holds its space cos what this currency does is bare to see and its a beauty. It is a currency involved in human growth and solving problems! Hopefully suggestions come in the comments! #steemfest2 was mentioned by @mindhunter, will you attend?
