Steem: Spend Today Versus Accumulate For Tomorrow
Our Steem journeys are different because we are different.
- what we can offer is different
- our strengths and weaknesses are different
- why we joined the Steem community is different
- why we stay engaged in the community is different
And what we do with our earnings is different as well, and that is what I want to talk about in this post.

Spending Steem Earnings Today
Pros
- Supplement current income
- Create discretionary spending that does not impact fiat earnings
- Take advantage of price information that is guaranteed today
- Utilize a fee-free payment system (when making payments in Steem or SBD)
Cons
- Reduce potential Steem earnings in the future (if the price of Steem increases in the future)
- Additional steps required to convert Steem and SBD into fiat
Accumulating Steem/Steem Power For Tomorrow
Pros
- Benefit from the principles of compounding interest
- Increase influence within the Steem community
- Continued access to earning streams (creating content, delegating Steem Power, curation, etc.)
Cons
- Lose out of guaranteed buying opportunities today
- Steem price is not guaranteed in the future
My Strategy
I have a positive outlook on the future of Steem (as a community, a blockchain, and a token). So as long as I can, I plan to stay in the accumulation phase. I am tempted to use earnings to buy Steem Monsters cards on occasion, but at present, I am trying to convert most of my earnings into Steem Power and use for other activities that increase my SP.
Now there will come a time that I will use my earnings to make strategic purchases, but I will make that decision in the future based on my family's needs and the price of Steem. I hope that by delaying the spending of earnings today, I will be able to significantly increase earnings in the future.
No Judgement From Me!
I don't know what you are facing in life right now. I don't know if you live with excess or if you are struggling to make ends meet. I don't know if you have buffer resources so that you can press past your current needs so that you can make a larger investment in your future.
So even though I might have thoughts about best case scenarios, I will not judge you. Your need to spend Steem or your ability to accumulate Steem is your choice and yours alone.
I want to hear from you.
- Are you spending or accumulating Steem/Steem Power?
- What motivated you to make that decision?

@SumatraNate
Great post. I was just thinking about making a post on this subject. My current strategy is I keep half of the steem I earn here on Steemit and the other half I have been using to buy other crypto currencies. I love steem and think it has amazing potential but I like to be diversified. Enjoyed your post. Keep up the good work!
Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment. I have some funds in other coins. Since the price of Steem is relatively low compared to the highs I experienced in late 2017 and early 2018, I have decided to primarily focus on Steem.
If we get a nice price pump, then I will be looking for some other coins. Keep creating great videos. See you around!
