Some great thoughts there, we wouldn’t be her if it wasn’t for Steem inc but that doesn’t mean we can’t move forward reliant on them for every new development. The hundreds of DApps are testimont to that.
I would be great to see a structure that rewarded Independant development more but I can foresee some risks with that as well. What happens when somenone or group decides to take their bat n ball and create there own game?
In this case it would be done similar to what IPFS or Storj do it.
A "decentralized cloud network" paid by the TB supplied.
Hence expanding the possibilities for people to earn Steem (SP) and likewise would totally decentralize our storage of "cat photos".
Being a "Steem network of Hard Disks all over the world" justifies the rewards from the rewards pool.
If someone decides to stop supplying, then they don't get any rewards from that point onwards, as they are "renting out their Hard Disks" and the code would have to work in such a way that all that data that is no longer available on that hard disk gets stored onto the next available disk from the other copy of each item on other disks.
All simple in theory, it is just getting the consensus and awareness to a point where we tackle this growing issue before than it becomes a burning issue.
Again, just thinking out aloud and looking at what happens when a centralized point of storage decides to shut shop.
That's what I though it would be the natural way for STEEM since the beginning.. but I failed completely to understand that being all this work done by mostly "FREE" concept "work", there is actually a company behind the scenes, that still needs to survive and see some profit.
And probably that level of decentralization at the beginning was too high for the costs that could be supported.
I like to think of it as "evolution".
We are growing up and a part of that means taking on responsibilities rather than depending on mum and dad for everything.
