Delegated Operations and Transparency

in #steem6 years ago

Hello there People in these days I find myself thinking about mostly one thing and it is all those organizations popping from everywhere with Steemit delegation. Eventhough some of these apps are really killer since they conduct on a community based blockchain. I really think they should be more transparent to both Steemit and community.

Since I started using Steem it evolved and changed faster than I anticipated it was quite hard to earn some steem through condenser for a new comer but these disruptive works funded by delegators changed a lot of stuff and they are playing active role in fair wealth distrubition. As Ned said Steem blockchain will succeed only if it gets dwarfed by developers and 3rd party works constructed around the blockchain. However I still have doubts about how these first generation steem apps conduct their operation on the blockchain.

Transparency

What do we know about them ? Do we know their roadmap and what they are planning in the future years and what are they vision and mission ? Are they going to evolve and change their operation style and keep up the changes on the blockchain ? These were the questions that is making me thinking in the last couple of months. Basicly this is a blockchain works with the stakeholder mechanics , therefore we are all stakeholders and I really think these organizations should be more transparent. I won't deny the fact that some of these apps are quite amazing , however there is a lot of abuse going on in the platform so I really think there should be some operation standart for these platforms. I know these are all experimental projects and there were no preconception of what to do however if I want to learn about anything about these organizations I think I shouldn't message to people in discord and there should be some documentation to reach to see what are they doing and how are they conduction their businesses. Curating is the most basic but contreversial topic for these platforms besides funding however even community doesn't know how some of these platforms curate and what role they play in the wealth distribution besides some statistics.

Well as I said these are the only first generation apps , but as some people anticipated with the release of Smt's we are going to face a lot of developers coming steem blockchain to build some beneficial organizations around the steem blockchain. However if they fail in operating their business with delegated sp from Steemit they may cause more harm than good so I really think there should be some standarts.

I don't know what you guys think about it but I would love to hear your thoughts about these , they are definetely attracting some people to the platform and getting some attention but there will be tons of these in the close future so I want to get your feedback on this matter.

I feel like Ned blindly delegates SP to the apps around STEEM to show them support without questioning how they will use the delegated stake.

There should be some kind of code of conduct for the usage of the delegations. If the related apps, doesn't follow these rules again and again, their incoming delegations should be revoked.

This way, app developers and founders would be much more careful.

They could prioritize to prevent abuse but they don't. It's just a thought in my mind that they may consider small abuses some kind of "growth hacking" to gain more users and attention, more importantly, numbers due to "no rule, just use it" kind of delegations.

Oh I totally agree the things you pointed out , these people just create the app without thinking the budget or their roadmap and when they get the delegated sp their reign starts , however there are certain organizations working in quite legit ways in order to prevent abuse and only dynamic organizations which works actively can catch up the development speed inside and around the blockchain

Oh yes, the fact that DLive still has ned's full delegation is a joke.

Well to be honest I am really much hopeful with these projects specially @dtube. I believe they have a really good future ahead.

I agree with you.

Its probably for the best if these projects were totally open about how they reward content, in my opinion @utopian-io is probably the only one with clear rules about it. And after reading @guyfawkes4-20 article and seeing some examples of circle jerking with delegated SP, there must be a way for the community to monitor if things are being handled responsibly or not, and act accordingly.

Using delegated SP irresponsibly is not new here, but it clearly leaves a bad image for the whole platform, and as this project grows the delegations need to be more closely monitored to avoid abuse.

Yeah utopian is quite decent I can't argue with that they do everything to prevent the abuse but curation is only one side of running a business on blockchain. It is hard to create a healthy two-way communication with these organizations

Hey, @utopian-io supervisor here!

Regarding the curation is only one side of running a business on blockchain - we know. We're doing our best to prepare our rules, code and team for a kickstarter campaign that will advertise Utopian to people outside of steem that will hopefully let us have a lot of more SP of our own.

Also, if you want to know how our processes work, all of our discord channels are open for viewing and you can join our voice conferences every week, or every 2 weeks at Biweekly.

Furthermore, if anyone is concerned about our policies and the way we spend our SP, you're welcome to message me to clear up all the confusion. We're trying to be as open as possible, but since Utopian is now an officially registered company, some stuff must be kept secret.

Lastly, the roadmap is coming! Look out for it in the following days!

Still, thanks for the kind words and we appreciate the feedback!

I do not know if it's for good or bad, but it helps the community to exploit their skills, greetings

I think there should be more apps for each niche, and what I mean with this is that there should be 2-3 apps for the "youtube" of steemit , 2-3 apps for soundcloud of steemit etc.

Unless there is no competition people will lose motivation in the long term.

Just look at where the votes are going and both you and I know how "effective" it is.
