TODAY Im gonna be on the TRENDING PAGE why you ask? Because I CAN

The current setting where you need to beg the whales, be popular or spend countless hours and posts to try to get noticed is not good. Some people are anti social but have good content, others just don't have time to post hundreds of posts before they finally make it to the top.
This is very discouraging for many people and as we have seen from the stats many users don't even bother coming back. I know the community is doing some good effort to try and get everyone on board like the daily pick and other features authored post, but is it enough?

My proposition is to implement user promoted content where we can have a few posts every day on the trending page that users paid for with steem to get there. The idea is that we could have a list of user bidders and the highest bidder wins the spot for the day or for 12 hours. Once the user won the auction he will have to send the amount of steem in a burn address which means those steem won't hit the market ever again.
This will have multiple benefits

  • new users will stop feeling helpless because the trending page is finally more accessible ( fairness )
  • competitive market to see how much people are willing to pay to get a spot ( this could be very interesting to watch unfold.)
  • regular demand for steem which is sent to a burn address ( reduction in steem supply ) which means a higher steem price which is the whole point behind this idea.

One issue is that if someone wants to promote very controversial stuff, maybe users can vote to validate if they want this content trending before?

At the moment there is obviously a lot of sell pressure and we need to find a way to increase steem demand so that the ecosystem is healthy, when price goes up it creates snow ball effect, investors notice, people are paid more so they are more motivated,etc...

I think a user promoted content system like this will be more popular than anyone can expect, with a free markets of bidders i would not be surprised to see people paying thousands of $ in the hope of getting more return on the trending page.

Ned briefly talked about this kind of user promoted content in the following video and i personnaly think this is one of the most important developement for steemit, and if this sytsem could be done in a decentralized way that would be the cherry on top

Anyway let me know what you think about this pro con etc..
