I think it'll happen. Steemit is currently in invite only due to having too much traffic trying to sign up over the last few days. I don't think the dev's even expected it to take off like this. Once they release the hold on that invitation, this place is going to the moon. We're really lucky we got in early. Check this out anyway https://github.com/steemit/steem/releases - Dev's are gonna be improving this heaps, big changes to come :)

i like the fact, that the developers are wise enough to put a invite only in place to protect the platform.
it would be more harmful, if the platform went down for a couple of hours or days...
just a little datapoint, my friend put his name on the waiting list yesterday and was approved today!
