Please Read!!! Voting Power should be Equal...Vote or not but please Comment!!! Last post didn't upload correctly.

Imagine a world where your vote is worth less than the next mans vote. Imagine a world where the weight of your vote is directly linked to the amount of money in your bank account. Imagine if the people with power only voted for themselves and their interest while controlling the money supply and the only way to get more voting power would be to give them your money to hold so they become even more powerful. Not only do they control the money but they control the bank as well and your bank account. You can deposit...you can withdraw...you can vote, however; your vote has no power and you have no money.
So...you sing and dance an and perform for the masses trying to get votes to increase your money...to increase your voting power...and you look up the road and see a crowd. All of the Big voters are there being followed by the Medium voters and the Medium voters are being followed by the Small. You push your way through the crowd to see what's going on and there's a person and for whatever reason the Big voters are voting for that person and even though a majority of the crowd may or may not like that person the Big voter outweighs your vote 100 to 1. Now this once small voter is a Big voter isn't that what everybody wants?
You ask the Bigs why they voted for that person and you get no answer...you're to small. So you ask the Mediums why they voted and they reply that if they vote for this person maybe the Bigs or that person will vote for them. You ask the smalls why they voted and they reply that they are just following the bandwagon trying to get a vote. Remember...votes are everything. It's what keeps you alive. So you and sing and dance harder then you ever have before and get 10 to 15 small votes and a medium one. Wow 16 votes...I'm sure that's worth something. Then a Big comes along laughing saying,"Look at them sing and dance for our pleasure and profit...I admit they are good...damn good... but they'll never get my vote. I only vote for things that I like...like women, and people to kiss my ass, and people just like me". "These minnows will never get my vote...I'm a Whale, I eat minnows to stay strong, why would I turn a minnow into a whale"?
So the cycle goes on and on. People performing for Whales hoping to get a vote. Then something happens.
You notice something. You notice thousands of minnows leaving the crowd which gets the attention of the dolphins. Then thousands of dolphins leave which gets the attention of the Whales. "What is this" a Big says. "What's going on"? And I reply, "There's a really big Whale over there spreading around equal voting power to the dolphins, and the minnows, and everyone is performing for him. I'm going over there too". "Wait"...a Big says. "We'll give you our vote if you just stay". And I reply, "They're not leaving because you wouldn't give them a vote, They're leaving because over there they perform for each other...and with equal voting power...the quality of performance is more entertaining". "They aren't performing the the whale, they're performing for the crowd". "When everyone has an equal vote... you have no choice but to perform for the crowd". "People aren't leaving for the quantity over their vote, they are leaving for the quality of the content". "Everyone wants to be entertained, not just the whale, but the dolphins and the minnows". "Isn't that what you want"? The Bigs look at me and say, "We want power". I reply, "Without minnows, how will you survive"? "Without dolphins and minnows, you have no power".

Sort:

In a model of equal vote, without any money backing the vote, all you have to do is make a bot that creates 10000 accounts, and then put the bot to vote 10000 times. At that point, your vote is diluted by 10000 due to the bot votes.

Woo Hoo. Dan the Man up voted a post on my post. That means that I got his attention. (Evil lol)

Imagine my surprise when I made 200+ $ from a simple comment...

Keep it up man. You have a great point.

I can't help but agree, except I decided to "leave" because my self-esteem is always on the edge and spending any time to write something up and coming out with .08 SBD after sharing a picture I found on reddit comes up with 38.26 SBD ... well let's just say it's not a healthy thing for me to see. I'm not one to try to change the system, I'd rather just let it do what it does. This thing will either survive or not. I could say, "I just need to spend more time refining my ability" but I've got a job that pays me decently and I can sit down, off the clock, when I get home and not have to worry about how good or not my post is. As much as I'd like to bring in some extra money on the side, worrying about being "good enough" is more than I want to put myself through.

Yeah...I had to get over the "Why" feeling too. Now I'm just having fun. If it pays it pays. If not, fuck it.

My mindset has changed since four days ago myself. Spending a bit of time working on it pays off in the long run.

You miss the big picture. Whales could care less about getting $100 on a blog. That is like you going to bank to deposit a nickel. I think they post to form a central consensus for Steem.

See more at:
top-5-reasons-why-whales-posting-content-is-good-for-steem

But what if 1,000,000 people deposit 1,000,000 nickels. I see what you're saying though.

Interesting post. It is true there are whales, and they will control a lot of the power. But you also have to realize the people gaining power will only be the people who make quality posts. They will be the one's coming up in the world. But it is similar with any crypto. If the community who created in it or has a vested interest in it want the destroy it, they usually can. But you would assume the people who have $1,000,000 in steem power probably don't want to turn small posters away, they in fact want to promote these small posters because those posters can influence a group of friends, and spread news to social media. This can then make everyone who is currently on steem richer. Also people still argue that if VISA invested all their money into bitcoin and turned it to shit, they could. They would also lose a lot of money when they sell all their bitcoins, but they could. I read a really interesting articles about how whales aren't destroying the community but instead creating opportunities, here is the link: https://steemit.com/steem/@magnebit/top-5-reasons-why-whales-posting-content-is-good-for-steem

I guess so it sure doesn't look that way.

Still uploaded wrong but whatever. Go Steem!!!
Sharkolate.

Very well expressed my dear friend. I agree to the argument that whales are needed but we also need a mechanism in place so that whales or dolphins do not hunt in groups. whales should be publicly voted by the community and steem/power/dollar may not influence the selection so that we can expect unbiased judgments and a more transparent ecosystem.

Agreed. I totally agree.
