CURATION: Maximize Your Unused Vote Power
I have seen several arguments for and against bots and I wanted to chime in.
My greatest argument for bots hit me after using Autosteem for a week. No matter what methodology I used to vote, I always had at least 50-60% vote power left.
The remaining vote power means there are high quality posts not receiving my vote. I may miss posts because posts are:
- Posted outside of my filter
- Posted outside of my timezone
- Posted when most people are publishing posts
- Posted under tags I am not watching
Having software that makes use of my remaining vote power is a huge benefit to new and often missed Steemit users.
It prevents always voting for the same author and could allow you to find new high quality content.
A simple way to make sure there is less unused voting power is to set Autosteem to vote for posts under a desired tag that have a certain vote threshold, etc, but with the added caveat that you set the filter to always leave a percentage of your voting power so you can continue to manually curate.
If you are leaving votes behind, consider how you can use these resources to ensure new steemians posted good content aren't left out.
A lot of times I judge a post based on the title, first picture, or whether I already know the user. Autosteem has a couple ways to asses the value of the content beyond surface metrics.
You can monitor the comments first...
Or you can just look at all the pictures associated with the story.
The latter method definitely pushes content makers to make sure their story is being told with words and pictures. This is particularly valuable if an Instagram clone is released for Steemit.
I have started doing this in my poetry organically, but have revently read that some guilds are actively promoting content with more than one picture.
What are some bots or guilds you use to solve the problem of having unused voting power?
If you are still a 100% die hard manual curator, what is your number one argument against bots or curation tools?

I have refused any type of bot or auto voting so far, since I like to read the content I vote for. Furthermore, I like to comment almost every article I upvote and like that give a direct feedback to the author. It´s my way of showing respect from blogger to blogger and give back real value.
Regardless, the interface looks interesting and I appreciate the information. Maybe I will consider it some day as an additional voting tool. But at the moment I prefer to curate manually. I am aware of the fact that my curation rewards are not 'top' and that I could earn much more using a bot or trail or any other service. But that´s OK for me :-)

Hi surfermarly. I built Autosteem so that I could find the content I like more easily so that I could more easily review it, comment and interact on steemit. Its far more than just a voting bot, but I am striving to make sure it is the best one of those as well. You don't have to use the autovoting if you just want to blog views, comments and photo views, they are very helpful as is so lots to help you with interacting more on steemit.
Supposing that I have my favorite authors in my feed and select content by tags, what additional value could bring autosteem to me? Convince me! ;-)
search all comments, instant view filters, photo view and photo gallery, autovoting so you don't leave unused votes, more stats on your followers, following list, etc. Plus, everyone I've heard from loves the interface, especially for photos and the galleries. Much more coming as well.
I like that commitment, to always comment on posts that you upvote. I can't manage it, but then I haven't really tried. Perhaps I will, see how it goes.
Also, I think manual curation is in a way the ultimate long on STEEM statement.

However, I am inclined not to use bot voting as in the end you are ultimately undermining the whole value of the reward assigned for curration. That is the effort the reader expended evaluating the posting. If bot voting becomes the dominant form of voting, sooner or later we can expect to see bot blogging. Blogging by bots optimized to fool the curration bots. Say six pictures and 300 words of random text.
Hmmm... Perhaps I ought to try that.

This only applies to people who have remaining voting power. So either it is wasted or used.
I am against bot blogging, but may be a good middle ground is to create a bounty with that voting power.
It is saved and given if a human user meets the posting or product criteria a user has established.
haha, random text I don't think would do so well. I know there are good and bad things about bot voting, so providing as much control and options for it as possible, is what I intend to do. If a bot is as good as you would vote yourself, why not use one to help promote your following list, or favorite authors you already know make AWESOME content all the time. I know I can't find the time to login to steemit everyday, but my favorite authors are still supported by me with the help of a good bot, like autosteem. You certainly need to leave it to MINDLESSLY vote content.
I'm new to steemit, the presence and acceptance of bots surprised me at first. I thought such a thing would be a huge problem. But sweeping up remaining power appears to be a legitimate use case. Also, just as market maker bots can provide liquidity to an order book, I suppose these bots provide exposure and return for new and underappreciated authors. As long as the "game" prevents autovoting from taking over, it's a fascinating approach.
I wonder about the potentials of deep learning here. Can a deep learning curation bot learn from it's trainer what quality content looks like? Does that provide a valuable service to other steem users that might get missed by manual curation?
That would be next level. And even swing the pendulum back to the curator. A learning bot could create reports of authors to watch based on previous voting patterns.

I've been making autosteem even better (like the fact that it just found me this post through a new mention feature, as well as more features with followers). My next version is going to have MUCH more around autovoting so you can control it better, set it for specific authors, even copy other people's voting. Its powerful stuff, so keep using it, there is much more to come!

autosteem is not working!so many people donot use it.
I find it works on Safari so far. On Windows 10, Chrome browser it hasn't work.
