Steemit SPAM - Where have all the bots in disguise come from in the past month or so?steemCreated with Sketch.

I am seeing a lot of comments which at first glance appear to be a comment from a person, "very interesting", "very nice", "very thought provoking" etc, however the comments do not relate to the posts, anyone else noticed this?

I have also seen some auto comments that literally take over the post with "follow me" and other messages, not good if this continues, literally spamming the posts.

Beware of this and do not randomly upvote comments on your post or embarrass yourself by thanking an auto comment!

Bots are the latest and newest issue. There are folks asking to have SP delegated to them, so they can use on of their bots to collect maximum curation payouts using algorithms that have nothing to do with reading the post or assessing quality of the post.

Appears to be more every week, thanks for the info.

Steemit is currently going through the equivalent of the Nuclear Arms race but with bots instead of Nukes.

For financial gain only?

I think so, people chasing that "easy & fast" money.

Internet marketing in its early days was the wild west too, keyword stuffing pages & the like. Eventually it settled down. Even if it doesn't and the bots drive people away, once the audience (and the opportunity) leave the bots will flow somewhere else, leaving Steemit to recover.

Yes, the financial gain aspect of Steemit could become a problem, been wondering about that in the past few weeks. Also look at the introduce yourself tag, over half are not introductions now as people became aware that introductions pay better.

I'm holding out hope that the free market aspect of Steemit will ultimately balance all of this out. Sooner or later, the spammers will realize that there's very little return for the effort they're putting in and move on. All it should take is for users to become more selective about what they choose to upvote and that will help starve the spammers & bots into looking for easier pickings.

I also can't help but think that corrections to the changes made in HF19 that led to a lot of this are already being worked on.

Someone also pointed out to me a while ago, Steemit is still in Beta testing.

They're working the bugs out.

Homemade, glad you like it!

Just joking. I started posting on Steemit again being off for 6 months. The whale games this time last year were brutal . Now I see there are bots actually working the aglo for penny's.... it's so sad because it just make Steemit look petty and unsophisticated ... I came to the conclusion that eventually all the spam and whale gaming will decrease as the ecosystem evolves. Greedy Whales from this time last year already have lost influence as they have powered down SP to cash out.... this post made me think about my intail Steemit experience it the wang bot https://steemit.com/wangspam/@poias/is-wang-steemits-myspace-tom-greeting-bot

Appears to have got worse in the past few weeks, I have only been here since May.
