Well, it was no rumour that a few months back there were news reports that Samsung stores would start accepting Steem as a currency for instore purchases

This news sent Steem/SBD through the roof on the Korean exchanges.

Rumours are getting around now by some senior members on Steemit that Samsung is about to buy out Steemit's CEO Ned, who had started a Power Down of the main @Steemit account. Obviously, Ned has not confirmed the rumours yet, but others state that this is the reason for the Power Down.

A number of Witnesses got spooked by Ned's actions and has threatened to Hard Fork his @steemit account out of the Steem Blockchain if Ned did not stop the Power Down.

Well, Ned just transferred almost 2 Million Steem to Bittrex, and has continued to Power Down another 42 Million.

This is the biggest crisis that Steemit has ever faced, with Witnesses either showing their support for the co-founder of Steemit, or preparing to mutiny.

If Samsung is indeed in negotiations with Ned, then Steemits future is looking extremely bright.

If Witnesses attempt to Hard Fork @steemit out of the system, then the consequences could be devastating...

Quoting a Steemit developer and witness "Well here's the threat... some people want to blacklist the @steemit account. Looks like they want to remove the company entirely that's been working on Steemit, the problem is the platform will be left in anarchy (like Bitcoin), and I imagine (the already slow) development will probably stagnate.

Consequences:

• This will break the recovery system for most accounts.
• Millions of Steem will be removed from circulation.
• Account creation on steemit.com relies on the @steemit account, this will also break.
• Provides proof that if you're a large stakeholder, you can still be blocked if the witnesses don't like you.

Here's hoping that the Samsung rumours are true, and that the Hard Fork does not occur.
