A few days ago I posted the first half of my 'Where Are They Now' catch up on the 'Big Dozen' - 12 key indicator projects that for me would determine the state, and the fortunes, of steem in 2019.
Now it is time for part 2 - the second six indicators - Advertising, SteemOnboarding, Steem Business Alliance, DApps & Apps, Exchanges, Direct Fiat / Steem Conversion.
I am hoping for some good, inspiring, progress on these six indicators.

7. Advertising
I will fess up right out of the blocks - when advertising arrived on steemit.com I took the first train out of AdTown and started using the Brave browser that blocks adverts. Added bonus - I've been happily earning BAT tokens since then - US$20 worth collected so far.
David @birdinc (Steemit Inc's Ad Man) used to ring the bell and make a post when he scored a new Ad client - but there doesn't seem to be anything new on that front for a few weeks now.
Are the adverts still rolling?
Unless we can get some cold hard $$$ sales figures from Steemit Inc we can't really make any judgement call on this one.
If ad sales aren't going well, oh dear, sorry to hear. If ad sales are going well, let's get up and boogie and bring down those programmatic STEEM sales @elipowell.
8. SteemOnboarding
Calling @anomadsoul, calling @coruscate. Do you read me? Over.
How's it going on the SOB project?
I see the Operation Mass Adoption Contest. Great prizes. Not so sure about the outcome...
Not wanting to be Negative Nelly here but I assume someone is going to point out that many of the new people signed up by the contest entrants have just made one or two posts and stopped.
Great stuff, but just don't mention the R word.
9. Steem Business Alliance
Let's welcome to the stage @starkerz, @Fredrikaa and the rest of the SBA crew.
How is it rolling over there? Are we crushing it?
Not sure how it is going. There hasn't been any updates on the @steemba account for a month now since the opening of the Discord...
10. DApps & Apps
You win some, you lose some.
MagicDice sneaked out the back door, and MoonSteem exited through the Gift Shop.
Coming on strong on the inside we have @ThreeSpeak (3speak.online) for the deplatformed ones.
This pretty nifty new video and streaming app from @starkerz, @anarcotech, @wehmoen and @theycallmedan looks poised to make a splash...
And Splinterlands (aka @steemmonsters) from @aggroed, @yabapmatt and co. is still knocking it out of the park on the gaming front...
Steem is not quite so dominant on StateoftheDapps.com as a few months back but it still has a good showing with Steemit, NextColony, SteemMonsters and Partiko all in the top ten. Although I understand @Partiko is soon to make an announcement about its future destiny...
11. Exchanges
The Community has busted a gut and done its best to get STEEM on various exchanges on several occasions - with varying levels of success.
@thecryptodrive has been the leading the charge on this as well.
To bat with the big boys really needs input from Steemit Inc. I believe Exchanges land in @birdinc's intray as well as the ad enquiries. David @birdinc - any news to report on this front?
Otherwise our own homebred exchanges like Steem-Engine, @FreedomEx and @swapsteem have been playing a good game.
I am not an exchange expert so I can't make any judgement on how we are doing on this front...
12. Direct Fiat / Steem Conversion
Not sure where we are on this.
I did pick up that @freedomex had made some breakthrough with Netcoins.
Can anyone from @freedomex give an update on this?
So there we are.
Not the most sparkling end of term report - but not the worst.
We still seem to be on the right track - but not really getting out of 2nd gear most of the time.
What will get us really motoring and moving up into top gear?

It does all feel a bit stagnant atm with the exception of steeemmonsters and palnet.... maybe its the calm before the hardfork that no one seems to want (except the top 20 witnesses)...?

The next few weeks are going to be interest.
I just hope the next HF goes better than the last one...
Really need to do something about on boarding and making this easy. Majority of people will not out in the effort and go back to the dopamine hits of Instagram etc etc...

Steem likes to make it difficult. And I am not sure the reward changes in HF21 are going to make it any better.
Yes, for sure. I've tried to see both the positive and negative sides of HF21. Currently it doesn't feel like we are moving, so perhaps this change may bring in more curators
