Echoing @tuck-fheman from 3 months ago: we need a Steem changelog

in #steem8 years ago (edited)

3 months ago, @tuck-fheman called for an ELI5 Steem changelog. We still don't have one.

Why we need a changelog

At the end of the day, a protocol is a set of commonly agreed upon rules. Steem is a protocol at its core and right now, the rules are not transparent to all participants. The Steem protocol needs an ELI5 changelog more than other protocols do because it's attracting lots of non-technical users who don't have the technical ability to monitor Github and inspect the code or the time to do Google searches and dig around to track old Steem posts.

Steem is still an experiement and I think it's OK for the core devs to change the rules and rapidly iterate to see what works best. But I don't think its OK to make changes without making it crystal clear to all that the changes have been made.

We desperately need an easy to understand changlog (Uber's changelog is a good example) and an actively updated repository that has all the rules around posting, curating, ect. And we need them fast!

Why don't we have a Steem changelog yet?

That says it all for me. I agree with your thoughts completely and I hope the devs see this post.

Yes that is clear and simple and I doubt almost anyone would argue otherwise.
So that means that anything else is obsurd.

I completely agree and don't see why anyone would disagree!

Steem is so rapidly changing too. Makes it very hard to learn how everything works.

Rapidly changing is OK (and probably good) in the early days.

Not being transparent is not OK.

Exactly and the difference between the two is paramount!
