Shit Trending Now: Our Frontpage Is Full Of Spam, Shit Posts, Upboted Posts & Low IQ Babble. (Thats not the face of steem Is it?)
Hello Steemians,
This week I'm taking my time to actually talk about the things we would like to see being done better in this steemiverse. A system that's decentralized like ours needs everyone's opinions to excel. My 2 cents count just as yours too count.
I will proceed to review the trending page for today and allow you all be the judge of whether these actually "prove brain". What you may see may baffle you.
We all know that the trending page is the landing page for the steemiverse. We all know that the articles there are what an outsider is going to see first when they try to get unto this network. We all know that that part of the site represents the face of steem...a blogger's first impression to decide whether to signup or not.
Seriously is that the impression we wanna leave them with? Perhaps they see a shitty post on the page earning maybe $500+. They may signup or not. Then they probably check the upvotes and just see a long list of bots trailing the votes.
Let's See Some Live Examples. Shall We?
1- Trending With Botvotes & Shitty Post Promising Scammy Rewards
I was visiting that page hoping to be proved wrong but No! I'm correct of course. The top post right there is a votebot service trying to get free publicity by flooding our dear steemit with spammy/scammy/jammy posts.
They upboted themselves with a long list of vote bots that you doubt whether there's any human contacts at all. Tell me what a post like that is doing on the trending page?
The most annoying thing is the grammar. You claim that you are going to reward people for making quality content but your own post isn't quality. What a sad irony?
Let's look past the grammar, what do they offer? Nothing. There's no mention of guidelines. No mention of judges. No mention themes and other criteria that a so-called quality reward contest must have. Jeex!
The saddest thing is the comment section. Full of spammers that can tell you "I like you post. upvote pls." That's what you get when you don't bring value.
I am too ashamed to share that kind of trending page with the public. Fix this please
2- Trending With VoteBots Just Because You Can (Even Though You Don't Need To)
We all have to be careful for what we do. A reputable person who has attained a certain level of mastery of this platform can definitely do without votebots. But who I'm I to demand that when the account itself is a bot.
No matter the message you want to pass, trending with bots gets you *seen by the wrong audience and judgement from the right eyes.
Everything in life is not money. money. more money. Sometimes, we have to do things with goodwill. The people that will give you goodwill are your real audience.
Where Is Our Proof Of Brain Algorithm?
What happened to people voting you just because they love your work or that they agree with what you said? What happened to our whitepaper? Has it been changed?
I'm appalled by the fact that what we now have is Proof-of-bots or proof of sp. Neo-capitalism. OhMG!
How about mining steem with your nerves? Are we delegating our mind power to bots too? Perhaps very soon we will start having bots that write for us, post for us, upvote for us, comment for us, claim our rewards and finally spend it for us.
Perhaps, this is why some schools of thought think that AI will ruin us someday. I don't blame them. We humans do not want to work. Even to use our God-given brains and write down our thoughts is getting more and more difficult by the day.
Its worse when we reward bot interaction and stifle the human factor. I clearly remember the quote of one of our steementors;
The humans of steem is more valuable than steem!
@Ogochukwu
I agree with him. Indeed humans are the creators of value and the valuers of creation. Without humans our world will be one whole automated routine, a boring mess and a shitty crap we can't survive a day in.
We were told to come for the money and stay for the community. These days, the money factor is dwindling while the communities are shrinking. Alot of able young men and women have left us. No! They aren't dead. They just went back to Facebook where they can get some "likes" and feel loved.
In as much as I don't blame them that much because they are trying to survive just like us, I do not recommend that. What Steem offers is the future. Blockchain is the future. But the future must also be streamlined in such a way that the glimmer of hope will start showing from today.

Do not fold you arms and watch what the outcome will be.
STop being a passive observer.
Start taking actions by speaking your mind.
Whatever grievances you have, say it out and you will feel much better.
NO WE AREN'T QUITTING STEEMIT.
Quitters are losers. We are winners. We speak out! We say it as it is.
The worst thing you can do is to stop writing. Whether the prices are high or low, do not give up steeming!
Meanwhile, use your voice and contribute to the discuss. We can all agree that what we want is a positive steemiverse that gives equal opportunities to all. Excellence is what we demand!
WE DON'T WANT A MEDIOCRE TRENDING PAGE!
Fix it!
SEE SOME OF MY LAST POSTS;
I deserve better. You deserve better. We deserve better!
I like my Steemiverse round and perfect!
I like the part you said....
It hit me real hard, you see I think we have forgotten our humanity and gotten carried away by the money making ventures we're into.
Just before I saw this post, I had taken my time to read a post I saw trending to at least find out why it was trending or of course, learn something new.
But then, I was disappointed when I went through it and got no value for my time. It was hell as annoying to even see shitty and spammy comments like you outrightly mentioned.
I decided to go through the person's wallet transactions and saw that he had boosted the life outta that shitty post and obviously what actually made it trending.
It's freaking so annoying. Like, I really don't know if I have the right to be pissed though, afterall, it's his money right?
I know I have seen good contents which of course deserves to rank trending pages at least, but where are they?
They go down the drain almost immediately they are published.
I may not be one hell of a good writer but I get discouraged when I realize that even after putting in so much effort on my write ups, it'll not even get up to $1 yet alone smell the trending pages.
Yet, we see our trending pages filled with so much trash....
It's annoying as hell.
breathes out
Okay, thank you very much for this post. It most definitely spoke my mind and I'm glad I could speak out what's been eating me up.
Lolx. Glad you have aired your views in a frank manner. That's one of the aims of this writeup.
We see alot of shit flying around but we are too politically correct most times to say it.
C'mon dear. Say your mind and you will feel better.
Okay so back to the problem at hand.
Don't ever give up!
Quitters are losers. We are Winners!
Keep steeming dear!
apart from fixing up the Trending post they are several different issues that happened before the messed up, the Trending page messed up issue stated from greed, and the steemit users not supporting the true bloggers.
So sad my friend. We all need support. But no matter what, keep steeming!
Thanks for saying your mind!
i believe it is well
Yea the front page is about as ridiculous as it has ever been right now. Who knows what will happen!
I had a thought about it on twitter earlier:
Lolx. Seriously. Its really something easy to do once on has the means of coding. Just make a list of voting bots and scan posts for their votes. Once its seen, the post is deleted from trending page.
If there's an app like that, I will specifically use it to find quality content instead of the trash we have now.
Cheers man!
THE PLOT THICKENS
Great! Would really love to see that. Maybe I will checkout gosteem.com. Haven't used or heard of it before.
👍
hey matt! nice to see youre on this as well, truth be told, the trending page looks like it took crack.
70% of the trending page is bidding bots, 10% is haejin's territory and the other 20%?
self-promotion, circle voting and money grabbing policies.
the problem is one of laziness and greed.
laziness on the side of whales not wanting to manually curate, and greed to make money.
only few would reject a deal to get daily returns on their SP.
Solution?
Hmmm! That last one got me.
Yeah! They have been errorneously delegating large SPs to businesses rather than the people who run the real communities.
Welldone!
It's a very important point you raise, and something that I've been speaking about with my friend and colleague @starkerz recently. We know that as the CAMPUS guild is now online, there is likely to be even more spam on the #promo-steem tag. And this is one of the reasons we wanted to have a multi-proof of brain system (with the Steem Ambassadors effectively acting as the trusted curators for the @steem-ambassador account).
One option which I've got is to deploy the Spam Hammer, which effectively would punish serious spamming/plagiarism on the #promo-steem tag should I deploy it by preventing those who engage in it from being able to benefit from the now much bigger upvote @steem-ambassador has. I don't particularly want to do this, I'd much rather try to educate people and encourage them to add value to the blockchain, but if we end up with a situation where the amount of spam increases, then I'm more than happy to deploy it. And I'm more than happy to talk to others who lead communities who might wish to deploy it for their own ends. What this would effectively do would be to make it much harder for spammers/plagiarists to game the system.
Like I say, I don't really want to do this, but I've already got the tech and If the situation doesn't get better, I'll be asking the community if they want it to be deployed.
Hey @anarcotech,
I'm really looking forward to the CAMPUS Guild's abilities to use multiple proof of brain algo. It something unique that deserves praise and all the support it can get.
As for the SPam Hammer, if it comes to that level, we shouldn't hesitate to deploy it for the good of the entire community. I think in due time, others will have to learn to fight spam and curate content from the Steem-Ambassadors.
I appreciate your works so far.
Cheers man!
Thanks for the reply. I will keep on doing whatever I can to support this community!
I am personally trying to favour posts that don't use bots with my upvotes.
It is only very little but might help to tip the equation in the right direction just a bit.
Looking forward to having on my radio show on Friday.
Thank you @pennsif!
We do have a lot to talk about.
See yah!
Unfortunately, speaking out can only do so much. I did it, and got some rather negative feedback, nd since I unfortunately hold a volatile position at this point, I have decided to cry out in secret, speaking to those who would listen.
The only people/person who can fix this hasnt still done so, and as long as there is no official word from the top, this will continue.
Hmmmmm....
This is quite saddening but then we have to keep moving.
Voice out or voice in, I'm actually glad that we are dissatisfied with the way things are and are doing something about it...
Weldone @destinysaid
Speaking out helps us all. At least I will not be walking around with bottled-up rage against anyone.
Also it helps those at the top take correction. You never know who may actually repent because of your writeup.
Always remember that;
Thanks for visiting man!
Cheers!
True talk but what do minnows do when they post great write ups on facebook and get enough likes and encouragement but here they struggle to get $0.09 for a post? It doesn't end there, they check the feeds and see people earn a thousand more times what they could muster for a better post; this certainly gives them the impression that steemit is a scam where only a few are upvoted or where if they want to make it they have to use bots.
I am typically a victim of this circumstance even though I've not used bots yet it seems the only way I can be rewarded for showing off my talent here. Check my blog for example, and the best I've ever made from a post is $0.07 and I subscribe to be able to assess steemit. When I run out of funds to subscribe or cannot get back my initial cash outlay what do I do?
Since bots shouldn't be upvoting humans should. Those who speak out should. Thanks!
You are welcome @Prinzo.
Thanks for venting your mind. Its very important for your sanity.
I'll check out your blog and give my tiny winnie upvote.
Don't ever give up. Quitters are losers. We are winners!
Speak your mind and keep steeming!
Thanks a lot. I'll never give up and I'll not require bots to make it here...
9ja no dey carry last na
A lot ills and rots spring up in the steeminverse and Nigerians are the one speaking out, some other guys too. Look at the epic battle going on with utopia.io by @eurogee, as you said a bot is currently sitting on the exalted trending throne of the Steemit kingdom this is abysmal...
What's happening there is very disgraceful. All these dAPPs with delegated SP are not using it to better anyone but themselves. We really have to lend our voices on this platform and speak out. No more hiding in the shadows.
Keep steeming!
Totally agreeing on this.
Well said @nairadaddy
The system is being polluted.
We have to stop it, we have to raise our voice.
Its obvious that contents or posts that usually make in to the trending page are not for quality rather they are posts with whales and moneybags somewhere.
