Quickstart to STEEM Video SeriessteemCreated with Sketch.

in #steem8 years ago (edited)

So the holidays are coming up and I realize everyone is going to be meeting up with family, and those of us that are still excited about Steem will probably be sharing experiences with family and loved ones. I originally planned to just do this for myself, but I thought this would be valuable to the community as well, so I figured I'd put a little more time into it and make it a thing.

So basically I'm going to make a video series that you can point anyone to to get them up and running on the Steem blockchain. I'm going to try to cover just about everything a new user would need to know, but I hope you all will help me if I forget something. If you're seeing this now, this video pretty much isn't for you, because you're already here, but please check it out anyway to let me know if you see things I'm forgetting. This is the breakdown of what I'm going to cover in each video.

I know some people are working on something like this, but mine will be as the title says, "quick". I'm going to try to keep each video in the 5-10 minute range and really just explain things as simply as possible, then point people in the direction of more detailed explanations for those that want a deeper understanding.

The goal of this series is for someone to know nothing about Steem, or about cryptocurrency in general and be able to get up to speed within a day or so. Yea, ambitious I know, but while the price is down, I think this is a great entry point for people, so anyone who I think would be interested I'm going to go ahead and start looking to onboard some people. Please feel free to use it as you see fit as well.

Just a heads up, while I'm working on it, (and I'm not sure how long I'll spend on it, but I'm going to shoot for one a day) I'm going to just have this all publicly available on youtube, but once it's done I'll probably throw it on gumroad and charge a couple bucks for it. Not sure how much, definitely less than $5 as I want it to be accessible to everyone.

Let me know what you think! As always, thanks for looking peeps!

This is AWESOME! I can't wait till the dapp segment! I am having trouble deciding which dapps to use (outside of dtube) because on the sites, they don't really go into detail about them besides looking like a good advertisement page to immediately join. I see esteem around a lot and in the tags and I was thinking of joining that, but I am still kinda tapping my chin about it.

Anyway yeeee! Can't wait till the next one!

Thanks @shahzadeh! Hopefully you'll find it useful. I jump around all the dapps. No need to pick just one :) I usually post on esteem or Steemit, but I like to browse on Steempeak. Partiko is really nice on mobile, very intuitive and fast, and well yea each one has some strengths and weaknesses.

Thank you and no problem! Honestly my only "issue" or fear is that my already MEAZILY earnings that I try to turn into steem to help the platform and make my curation better may be eaten up by the side costs of all the apps X'D I know a few of them have a 5% cost. Which is fine! I totally support them being able to make a living and do their thing, but if every single one of them had a 5% cost, then all-together that would really slow the accumulation right down. I'm thinking until I have enough SP in the first place, I might have to be really conservative with which ones I use.

Do you have any advice on that? I mean -- If there are people on those dapps that are more active and likely to upvote and curate, it MIGHT balance itself out?

Ahh, so some of the apps offset that by upvoting the people who use their app. Esteem for example does. They actually take 10% but with the upvotes they give me not only covers that but actually rewards me for using their platform 😊 Some others do this as well, like busy, and Partiko does something with points that I haven’t really looked into all that much but people seem to really like it so it’s probably worth looking into.

OOH! Well I shall DEFINITELY super consider that then! If you trust it and think its fair, I am sure it is! And I DO like upvotes!

Thank yooouu! I feel better now about this XD

No dtube love? XD doesn't matter if other people are doing something similar, it still won't be like yours.

My family are really not social media types so won't be any onboarding of them.

Good luck with the video making and onboarding and whatever else :)

Thanks @ryivhnn! Yeeeeeea these are really meant for people who aren't here already, so I want to put it where they are. Youtube is overall gonna be more accessible and easier to share.

Awesome! I needed this when I got on the platform. I still need it! It’s difficult for me to explain to my family and friends all of the intricacies of Steem and the Steemit platform. Kudos to you for taking the time to do this.

Thanks @jluvs2fly! Feel free to use this with anyone you want to onboard :)
